Fictional characters

[edit]

One of Wikipedia's core, non-negotiable policies is that of verifiability: that articles must be supported by reliable sources, namely those which have some form of editorial control and are independent of the subject of the article. It is perfectly possible to create good articles on fictional characters (see eg Pauline Fowler), but articles on characters which are solely repeating the character's role in the fictional work and have no chance of being supported by reliable sources, as is the case with these characters, simply do not belong in an encyclopedia. Verifiability is not negotiable. It is one of Wikipedia's five pillars (as part of the NPOV policy) and as such is explicitly excluded from ignore all rules. While you may feel that it should be excluded, that is not the consensus of the community, so you will need to abide by it if you wish to contribute here. If you wish to write a good, well-sourced article on Morag Bellingham (and by the way, I did watch Home and Away as a kid) then feel free to do so, but the current article just isn't suitable for an encyclopedia and as such is a good candidate for deletion. --Pak21 (talk) 11:43, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Also see Wikipedia:Notability (fiction) ... characters who have only been on a few episodes, or who have only been in the cast for a few weeks (like Dr. Lewis Rigg or Martin Bartlett), are not notable enough for articles of their own ...
