Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Malathion

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

final (45/1/0) ending 06:49 10 August 2005 (UTC)

Malathion (talk · contribs) - Anyone who has been on RC patrol or has been on IRC has definitely seen this guy around. He's been here since August 26, 2004 (almost a year now) and has really kicked it up the past couple of months. He's friendly, warns users a lot more than I do and most definitely will wear down [rollback] button. I'm sure he has already worn out a couple of mice clicking to revert and a couple of "{", "d" and "}" keys speedying nonsense and vanity and other non-Wikipedia pages for deletion. He's also really nice and helpful and would (in my humblefool opinion) make a great administrator in the mediation aspects. So based on that, I hereby declare my nomination for Malathion to be let onboard the Wikipedia adminship. Sasquatch′TC 06:49, August 3, 2005 (UTC)

Candidate, please indicate acceptance of the nomination here: I accept the nomination. Thanks. :-) --malathion talk 06:54, 3 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Questions for the candidate
A few generic questions to provide guidance for voters:

1. What sysop chores, if any, would you anticipate helping with? (Please read the page about administrators and the administrators' reading list.)
A. I've spent a lot of time on RC patrol lately, so I expect that being a sysop would allow me to resolve serious vandalism problems, or delete nonsense articles, without having to beg someone in #en.wikipedia.vandalism to do it. I am also very interested in helping to close VfD's if and whenever there is a backlog.
2. Of your articles or contributions to Wikipedia, are there any about which you are particularly pleased, and why?
A. My first major Wiki project was doing great deal of reorganizing and rewriting of Bobby Fischer. It just missed FAC, but I'm still pretty happy with the improvements I was able to make to it. I'm also working on improving bio stubs of a lot of chess players. I started the WikiProject: Moral philosophy recently, and I'm working on several rewrites of moral philosophy articles that I feel are in very bad shape. Outside of the article space, I wrote a lengthy (attempted) explanation of Wiki philosophy to Christopher Rose (because I was afraid that such a distinguished and well-educated scientist would be scared away by our unorthodox ways) on his talk page.
3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
A. Being a regular RC patroller makes my userspace a regular target of vandalism. Mostly, I revert and ignore it, because such users are generally blocked soon anyway. I was involved in a successful RFC and RfA against Alfrem (talk · contribs) over Libertarianism, which has been resolved successfully [1]. I've also been involved in some heated debate over the Race and intelligence article and I'm happy to think that some of my comments there have helped to cool things down, or explain one point of view to the other camp [2] [3]. However, in the future I would like to concentrate more on trying to resolve disputes, so that everyone can get on with making an encyclopedia.
