AssessmentWikipedia:WikiProject Polynesia/Assessment

This WikiProject was formed to foster better articles on the countries of Polynesia with a spirit of cooperation.

Goals

[edit]

The goal of this project is to create, improve, and maintain articles relating to the countries of Polynesia and the surrounding area, their history, people, geography, and culture. Included are the independent nations of Cook Islands, Niue, Samoa, Tonga, and Tuvalu, and the territories of American Samoa, French Polynesia, Pitcairn Islands, Tokelau, and Wallis and Futuna. The Polynesian area can be thought of as a giant triangle, with most of the area encompassed between the three points of New Zealand, Hawaii, and Easter Island, each of which has an indigenous Polynesian population.

Milestones

[edit]
  • 4000 articles: - 4 May 2015
  • 5000 articles: - 27 February 2018
  • 7500 articles: - 4 January 2022

Scope

[edit]

The scope of this project is all articles that fall within Category:Polynesia. We acknowledge that there may be other WikiProjects that deal directly with individual nations or areas within that. We are grateful for their efforts, and will concentrate our own on those areas that are not covered by other projects.

  1. User:Leonaitasi. Aloha. I am an amateur researcher whose journey began with Polynesian genealogy. Curiously, that has led to a deepening interest in archaeology, astronomy, dead languages, comparative linguistics, and comparative mythology and theology.
  2. User:Thdegy
  3. User:Vaafusuaga Samalaulu Fonoti. Talofa. Researcher in Samoan culture, oral traditions and history at the National University of Samoa. Matai (chief) from Malie, Manono, Leulumoega and Lufilufi.
  4. User:KHarber
  5. User:Badbilltucker
  6. User:Zora. Did graduate research in Tonga and Hawaiian archives. Speak Tongan and some Hawaiian. Unfortunately, I'm grotesquely over-committed to several other projects (Indian cinema, Islam, clothing).

  9. Mattbray - glad to help..... i understand a fair bit about music and dance
  10. User:Danbrown99 - i'm happy to help with the expansion of articles on Easter Island, and help with the upkeep on other articles.
  11. Targeman: I have a particular interest in Palau, I've just asked a local radio station for permission to use their pictures (sorely lacking on Commons). Waiting for their answer. Besides that, I'll add IPA tags where necessary, and translate, at least as stubs, English articles into other languages. I'll also try to create a stub for every populated island in Oceania. This'll take some time...
