Page numbers and editions
[edit]Thank you very much for including page numbers for the quotes from On Beauty that you added to Zadie Smith. Could you please also include the ISBN and/or other edition information of the book from which you got those page numbers? I found quite a few to choose from:
- ISBN 0241142938 (London, Hamish Hamilton Ltd, 2 Sep 2005, 445 pp.)
- ISBN 1594200637 (New York, Penguin Press, 13 Sep 2005, 464 pp.)
- ISBN 0670045276 (Toronto, 2005, 445 pp.)
- ISBN 0141888318 (?, Penguin Books Ltd, 16 Sep 2005, ? pp.)
- ISBN 0141888326 (?, Penguin Books Ltd, 16 Sep 2005, ? pp.)
- ISBN 0141888334 (?, E-Penguin general, 16 Sep 2005, ? pp.)
- ISBN 0241142946 (?, Hamish Hamilton Ltd, 30 Sep 2005, 464 pp.)
- ISBN 078628319X (?, Thorndike Press, 2 Feb 2006, 789 pp.)
- ISBN 014101945X (?, Penguin Books Ltd, 6 July 2006, 464 pp.)
- ISBN 0141026669 (?, Penguin Books Ltd, Open Market Ed edition, 7 Jul 2006, 444 pp.)
- ISBN 0143037749 (?, Penguin (Non-Classics), 29 Aug 2006, 464 pp.)
- ISBN 1594200734 (?, Penguin Press, 26 Sep 2005, ? pp.)
As you can see, different editions have different page numbering. Someone who later tries to find the quote but fails because it's a different edition may end up deleting the quote because it looks like a misattribution.
We're still working out deatiled source formatting issues here, but even a single line under the section title along the lines of:
- On Beauty, ISBN xxxxxxxxxx, nnn pages
would help a lot. Or you can use the {{cite book}} template, if you feel more adventurous. Let me know if you have any questions. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 19:39, 22 April 2007 (UTC)
Your account will be renamed
[edit]Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Franchesca786. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Franchesca786~enwikiquote that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
