Grande Recife or Região Metropolitana do Recife is a metropolitan region in northeastern Brazil.

Grande Recife is comprised of the following cities:

  • 1 Recife — Nicknamed "The Brazilian Venice", it is built on several islands linked by many bridges. Rich in history, art and folklore. Do not miss neighboring Olinda and Porto de Galinhas. The city is also a gateway to the amazing archipelago of Fernando de Noronha.
  • 2 Olinda — UNESCO World Heritage Site, home to Brazil's most authentic carnaval
  • 3 Igarassu — home to Brazil's oldest church and Latin America's largest collection of baroque paintings
  • 4 Itamaracá Island — home to beautiful beaches, the Ducth Fort Orange, colonial Vila Velha, and Engenho São Joao
  • 5 Camaragibe — for a pleasant, bucolic escape (cooler microclimate)
  • 6 Cabo de Santo Agostinho — home to beautiful beaches and colonial fortifications
  • 7 Ipojuca — home to acclaimed Porto de Galinhas beach, voted the best beach in Brazil

The Recife Metro (Metrô do Recife, Metrorec) serves Grande Recife with 29 stations, along 39.5 kilometers (24.5 mi) of track, running as far south as Cabo de Santo Agostinho. The system is complemented by two light rail lines with seven additional stations.

The system includes several bus lines linked from the terminals of bus/metro integration designated SEI (Sistema Estrutural Integrado - "Integrated Structural System") through which passengers may continue their travel on the same ticket.
