From French Rédemptoriste, from Italian Redentorista, from redentore (redeemer, savior) (notably the Messiah, Christ; from Latin redēmptor, from redēmptus, perfect passive participle of redimō (redeem, buy back), itself from re- (back; again) + emō (buy; gain, take, procure)) + -ista (-ist).
