Uncertain. Perhaps a Lombardic or Carolingian era borrowing from Lua error: Parameter "notext" is not used by this template. or maybe from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] French page ("page", "serving boy"), probably via Neapolitan pazzë (compare French adage être effronté comme un page).
