- (10th CE Byzantine) IPA(key): /oˈi.o.me/
- (15th CE Constantinopolitan) IPA(key): /oˈi.o.me/
The iota (ι) always scans as long in the Iliad and Odyssey. Otherwise, the word would have a sequence of three short vowels, or four when the final αι comes before a vowel, both of which are impossible in dactylic hexameter.
