Learned from Latin Crotōn or Crotō, ultimately from Ancient Greek Κρότων (Krótōn). It is still called Cutrona in the local Sicilian-calabrian dialect. Compare the surname Cutrona, which is borrowed from the Sicilian Cutrona.
