[edit]From Middle High German glocke, glogge, from Old High German klocca, from Late Latin clocca, probably of Celtic origin, from Proto-Celtic *klokkos (“bell”) (compare Welsh cloch, Irish clog), from Proto-Indo-European *klēg-, *klōg- (onomatopoeia).
Cognate with Vilamovian głok.
