German
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Middle Low German spint, spinde, borrowed from or reinforced by Middle Dutch spinde, spende. Eventually related with German spenden, from Late Latin spendere, from Latin expendere; either through Medieval Latin spenda, the existence of which is doubted however, or a Germanic derivation from the verb.
