damp course (plural damp courses)

  1. (construction) A layer in a wall, foundation etc. which prevents moisture spreading into interior areas.
    • 1985, Peter Carey, Illywhacker, Faber and Faber, published 2003, page 532:
      He knew why the building was so damp. Its damp courses were defective and it was built on top of the tank stream.
    • 2001 June 20, Anna Tims, The Guardian:
