[edit]From eleven + -ty, from Old English hundendleftiġ (also spelled hund-endleofantiġ, hund-endlyftiġ, and hund-ælleftiġ). See twelfty for more. Popularized in the 20th century by J. R. R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings trilogy.
