[edit]Etymology

White Hmong
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Hmong *ʔlɛŋᴮ (“short”), and cognate with Proto-Mien *ʔnəŋᴮ (“id”). Due to the n-l alternation between Mienic and Hmongic, a Chinese borrowing seems possible, though no plausible candidate has been found.[1]
