Lithuanian
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Cognate to Latvian pirkt; further origin outside of Baltic uncertain. Perhaps from a Proto-Indo-European *prek-, from *per-k-, a hypothetical k-extension of *per- (“to sell”), in which case compare Ancient Greek πέρνημι (pérnēmi, “to sell”).[1]
