Borrowed from English plutonium, from English Pluto, from Ancient Greek Πλούτων (Ploútōn, god of the underworld), Ancient Greek πλοῦτος (ploûtos, rich), from Ancient Greek πλέω (pléō, float, sail), from Proto-Indo-European *plew- (fly, flow, run). Doublet of llyw (rudder).
