Mi donis al vi robotan statuson. Bonvenon al vi ! /I give you bot status. Welcome ! Arno Lagrange ✉ 08:05, 22. Maj 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks! Siebrand 16:59, 22. Maj 2007 (UTC)
Hi Siebrand... thank you for showing me the Nowcommons tool. I did not know about it, and will definitely use it!
I do realize we have many unwanted pictures from years of turning a blind eye to that. That is being changed, and every picture uploaded right now faces close scrutiny. Also, old pictures are being deleted as well, especially the ones with copyright problems. But with so many pictures in our database, it will take a while to delete all the bad stuff. If there is anything further I can do, please ask. -- Yekrats 19:54, 9. Maj 2008 (UTC)
- I could request sysop and assist if you think that will help... I would not contribute to the main namespace, but solely do maintenance on the image namespace. Let me know if you think that would help. Implementing a policy that would close local uploads could also help easing the load on you admins here. There are a few larger projects that have done it succesfully, the Spanish language Wikipedia being a prime example... Cheers! Siebrand 21:57, 9. Maj 2008 (UTC)
- I think we could use help, but I would need to propose it to the group. Since you do not speak our language, I think the users here would be wary of such an arrangement. But I very much do appreciate the offer, and I will pass it on. (You may also chat with Arno, above. He is our bureaucrat here at Esperanto. -- Yekrats 00:19, 10. Maj 2008 (UTC)
I asked Arno about his opinion... so we will let you know. Thanks again for the offer. If you would like to learn some of the basics of our language (and become an EO-1 ;-) ) then here are some basic courses: [1] [2] [3]. Thanks... -- Yekrats 01:21, 10. Maj 2008 (UTC)
- OK. Just let me know the outcome. I'm happy to help. Cheers! Siebrand 10:32, 10. Maj 2008 (UTC)
- Arno seems open to the idea, and knows you from other forums. Just FYI. -- Yekrats 11:17, 10. Maj 2008 (UTC)
- OK. Then I'll start an RFA if I qualify... I may not have enough edits yet... I'll just try write up a solid plead. Cheers! Siebrand 11:29, 10. Maj 2008 (UTC)
- I have written a request for adminship on Vikipedio:Administrantoj/kandidatoj/Siebrand. I am uncertain where I should link or include it... Could you let me know? Thanks. Siebrand 11:45, 10. Maj 2008 (UTC)

Exemption policy
[redakti fonton]Our exemption policy is here: Vikipedio:Regularo pri justa uzo. Basically it is the same as the English. Basically, for fair use, a user must fill out the exemption policy at {{Informkesto justa uzo}}. If they don't include any template, you can use {{FBSŜ}} ("Foriginda bildo sen ŝablono" / "Delete-worthy picture without template"). Also, I've used {{FBJU}} ("Forigenda bildo justa uzo" / "Delete-worthy picture fair use") for pictures which say "fair use" but do not justify it properly. I just made those up, and I'd be open to other reasons for deletion as well.
According to the policy, if a file was uploaded before the policy (April 28) and doesn't have proper justification we'll give 2 weeks of a grace period after it is marked. If the file is uploaded after April 28, the file gets 1 week of a grace period after it is marked.
If you have questions, please let me know. -- Yekrats 00:33, 13. Maj 2008 (UTC)
- Aside from that I think an EDP really hurts the goals of the Wikimedia Foundation, I do not see a link to community consensus (by voting, I assume) on wanting to have the EDP on the EDP page. My lack of Esperanto language skills is seriously hampering me here, so please forgive me if I appear ignorant or plain stupid. Maybe I am :) To me it looks like you may have instated the EDP unilaterally. For reasons of clarity, I think you should also add a (perma)link to the community consensus. Cheers! Siebrand 00:45, 13. Maj 2008 (UTC) P.s. I am trying to be a pain in the butt here :P
- See Vikipedio:Diskutejo#Atentigo_pri_proponitaj_reguloj. Sometimes, because our community is small, we make an announcement at the Diskutejo, and lack of argument means consent. (See Vikipedio:Baloto. The above discussion, however, makes it formally adopted as part of the new regularo (collection of rules) at Vikipedio:Regularo. -- Yekrats 13:50, 17. Maj 2008 (UTC)
- Man. Accepting an EDP on a project for an artificial language in 2 days. That's very, very, very unsmart in my opinion. This will haunt you with copyright violations and uploads until the end of times. In fact, it kind of demotivates me to be working here, as I fear that all media that are going to be nominated for deletion will get tagged fair use (without a proper motivation), which means extra work. Let me tell you beforehand: if there are signs of this fear being true, I will quit immediately. Siebrand 16:39, 17. Maj 2008 (UTC)
- If something gets tagged fair use, it needs to be justified with the template Ŝablono:Informkesto Justa Uzo. Someone just can't tag it falsely and be done with it. If you see signs of this happening, could you please tell me about it?
- Just so you know, you have already helped, by tagging all the untagged material. I very much appreciate that! (I do not know enough about Pywikipediabot to make it do that.) If and when you do get administrator access, it would be a big help to delete all of the stuff in Kategorio:Nun en komunejo. Also, many of Kani's bird uploads are copies from the English Wikipedia... most of those are legal, uploads, but are untagged. I've been (slowly) importing the legal ones to Commons and deleting the one here. -- Yekrats 16:53, 17. Maj 2008 (UTC)
- Our fair use exemption policy is basically just a translation of the official policy of the English language Wikipedia on non-free content.
- Unfortunately Yekrats linked to the wrong section in the diskutejo when he told you where the discussion about our policy had happened. The right section is this one. Already in March Yekrats and me started translating the English language policy into Esperanto. In April Yekrats mentioned the issue in the diskutejo, and there was consensus to use the English translation. During the discussion in the diskutejo, Yekrats finished the translation, and afterwards others helped correcting the translation. Afterwards there was another discussion about the consequences of the new policy. So this wasn't a case of accepting an EDP in two days. Marcos 18:35, 18. Maj 2008 (UTC)

"Assuming licenses"
[redakti fonton]Actually, I'm helping Kani out with that. He told me that's how he wanted to license them, but he doesn't understand how to type in the code, no matter how many times I try to explain it to him. I say, "Type exactly this..." but it's beyond him. So we've agreed that if he makes it obvious that he himself made the file, I would enter those tags for him. ;-) His statement, "Mi faris tiun foton." means "I made that photo." -- Yekrats 22:39, 13. Maj 2008 (UTC)
- OK, thanks. Siebrand 05:50, 14. Maj 2008 (UTC)
"Fair Use policy" problems
[redakti fonton]I'm still not sure why you have problems with the policy. Are you afraid that people will not have time to see it and react to it? -- Yekrats 01:44, 18. Maj 2008 (UTC)
- My interpretation of the information that Yekrats gave me was that consensus was reached after 3 days. Can you tell me if that was a correct interpretation, or if it was not? Second question: is the EDP/Fair Use Polocy and integral part of the new rules that are being voted on, or not? Thanks. Siebrand 20:33, 18. Maj 2008 (UTC)
- Actually that's not quite correct. I announced the translation and it was announced and discussed heavily back in March. We didn't have a formal vote about it (because we very rarely vote about things). Thus the "three day vote" that you're talking about was a formal show of hands of what had already been discussed and tacitly approved. -- Yekrats 23:15, 18. Maj 2008 (UTC)
Self ŝablono
[redakti fonton]Hi there. I'd like to rename (move) the self template to something a little more Esperanto. This template will always be used for the possessor of the copyright, right? I am thinking about the tempalte {{propra}}, meaning "one's own". -- Yekrats 15:54, 20. Maj 2008 (UTC)
- Please don't. This will make the process of moving files to Commons hard, because CommonsHelper will not recognise the Esperanto templates. What you can do is make a redirect in Esperanto to self. Eventually, all the redirects will be substituted, and after the substitution I will bot-copy the self-created files to Commons. That is a few weeks away, though. So the preferred way is to have all license templates on pages named the same as on Commons, and use redirects with local names to those templates. Then users can use the local names, and CommonsHelper will recognise the correct licenses and creators. Siebrand 16:31, 20. Maj 2008 (UTC)
- OK, I can do that while we do polishing with the bots. -- Yekrats 12:43, 21. Maj 2008 (UTC)
sysop status
[redakti fonton]ten days after your request 8 votes for, 0 vote against : I grant you sysop status Arno Lagrange ✉ @ ₪ 21:01, 20. Maj 2008 (UTC)
- You are editing from your account Siebrand running a robot while you have a bot account SieBot. If you need sysop access for your bot, it would be better your bot account would have sysop access. What do you think about ? In RecentChanges right now I found 81 edits made by Siebrand (images deletion). If they would done from an account with bot status they would be hidden, and human edits could be shown instead. Arno Lagrange ✉ @ ₪ 16:17, 21. Maj 2008 (UTC)
- OK. Just let me know what I should do to get that done. Even at the Dutch language Wikipedia I never deleted files with the bot because the community didn't want the have deletions hidden. If you tell me that it can be done differently, or that you want things differently: no problem... Siebrand 16:35, 21. Maj 2008 (UTC)
- P.s. I didn't delete 81 images, I deleted about 2100 files... Siebrand 16:36, 21. Maj 2008 (UTC)
- I think a temporary sysop status for Siebrand's bot would be best. I might also request sysop status for YekratsBot so I can learn some of his tricks for maintaining the wiki. -- Yekrats 16:03, 22. Maj 2008 (UTC)

"File is now available on Wikimedia Commons."
[redakti fonton]Could you please translate "File is now available on Wikimedia Commons." into Esperanto?
Dosiero nun estas havebla en la Wikimedia-Komunejo.
Thanks for your help! -- Yekrats 10:40, 21. Maj 2008 (UTC)
- The script "nowcommons.py" does not support it at the moment. I'll see if I can add it in, but I may not be able to as I am not a programmer :) Siebrand 10:47, 21. Maj 2008 (UTC)
- Can you delete them with a Python script? I really need to look into that. I've been doing it all by hand.
- By the way, I added "Nun en Wikimedia-Komunejo" to the MediaWiki:Filedelete-reason-dropdown, if you do delete those by hand. -- Yekrats 12:42, 21. Maj 2008 (UTC)
- I found the message. Deletion message should be localised from now on. Siebrand 09:42, 22. Maj 2008 (UTC)
Fair use
[redakti fonton]Basically, the policy states that you can use a file if it directly relates to the theme of the article. For example, the cover for the song Billie Jean has Dosiero:Billie Jean.jpg in it. Lord Jim has the cover image Dosiero:175px-Lord Jim cover.jpg. So, the use of Dosiero:Emblemo de Sąjūdis.png within Sąjūdis would be justifiable fair use. However, the use on any other pages would not. So, as the "fair use police", I would judge that use in Kolonoj de la Gediminidoj is not. -- Yekrats 12:47, 22. Maj 2008 (UTC)
- Also, we should have the minimum number of images possible. We don't want multiple versions of the same "fair use" file when one will suffice. -- Yekrats 12:52, 22. Maj 2008 (UTC)
Siebrand, can you use your bot to clear out Speciala:UnusedImages. I've been doing some replacing, so all of the ones there are justified in being deleted. They are all either duplicates of something in Commons or violations of the current policy. Thanks for your help! -- Yekrats 20:37, 12. Jun 2008 (UTC)
- No problem. That'll be done quickly. Siebrand 21:24, 12. Jun 2008 (UTC)
{No source} tag
[redakti fonton]What is your definition of "No source"? For example, Dosiero:Safesmokes.jpg comes out of the English wikipedia, which is marked in the text of the file. Finding the same file in the en-wiki, the file is PD. Perhaps we need a better way of marking that. -- Yekrats 11:03, 13. Jun 2008 (UTC)
- Another wiki cannot be the source - it got there somehow. Best would be to note in your upload form that if free media from other wikis are to be used in eo.wp, people should upload the file to Commons using CommonsHelper. Cheers! Siebrand 13:49, 13. Jun 2008 (UTC)
- Well, if another user created it himself that would certainly seem to be acceptible. -- Yekrats 13:54, 13. Jun 2008 (UTC)
De la nederlanda diskutpaĝo de Siebrand:
[redakti fonton]Flago-de-....svg
[redakti fonton]Ik ben van Litouwen en kan niet veel nederlands praaten... therefore better in English:
You, and in some cases your robot, are erasing svg-images of national flags with Esperanto image names from the Esperanto Wikipedia and replace it with (similar or in some cases same) svg-images with English image names from the Wikimedia-Commons - noting "dosiero nun estas havebla en la Wikimedia-Komunejo" ("image now is reachable in the Wikimedia-Commons").
That may look sensible, but it is not:
The writers of the Esperanto-Wikipedia decided to have the images of all national flags with image-names in their language, because these images are very often used, don't change in appearance every day, and it's annoying to look up the English name of a nation every time you need to type the image-name of a flag. Furthermore there are templates in the Esperanto-Wikipedia like eo:Template:flagicon which turn a country name, like "Kartvelio" (in English "Georgia (country)"), automaticly into a flag-name like "Flago-de-Kartvelio.svg".
Nothing against the english-named flag-images in the Wikimedia-Commons, but please don't destroy the esperanto-named flag-images in the Esperanto-Wikipedia - just leave them as they are.
- Those templates are being changed. There is no need to re-upload. Nothing changes... Siebrand 16 jun 2008 13:50 (CEST)
Sincerely yours

Artikoloj ekzistantaj en multaj Vikipedioj sed ne en Esperanto
[redakti fonton]Estimata Amiko! Sincere:--Crosstor 04:22, 17. Jun 2008 (UTC)
- Hi Crosstor. I only understand something like 5% of the Esperanto I read. That is unfortunately not enough to understand what it is you would like to let me know. Would it be possible to write in German or English? I can make of it that you link to a list of topic for which pages exist in other Wikipedias, but not in Esperanto - however, that page does not exist, and has never existed under that name. Thank you. Siebrand 07:05, 17. Jun 2008 (UTC)
- Traslation: Esteemed friend! I beg your pardon, that I added to your work, but I am working on the list Artikoloj ekzistantaj en multaj Vikipedioj sed ne en Esperanto in 77/30. I simply copied the hungarian version, like I urgently knew. There were errors left behind. My germ/stub included links to 30 languages, but I don't know why, it remained only English. Afterwards, I made another article to get to the 100000. Sincerely, Crosstor.
- I'm not really sure what it's about. Translated by Yekrats 10:16, 17. Jun 2008 (UTC).
- As there is no question I see in the above, nothing more remains than to praise you for your efforts. Cheers! Siebrand 10:17, 17. Jun 2008 (UTC)
Dosiero:Herbert Bolton.jpg
[redakti fonton]Well, I simply assumed the English Wikipedia was right, that's why I labelled it the same way. Now I suggest we wait and see what happens to that image in en:, in order to make our own decision. Actually I'd like to keep this image if at all possible, since it is used in one of our featured articles. Maybe there is another, fair-use licence that would suit it better. Thomas Guibal 18:59, 18. Images of flags, locally
[redakti fonton]Siebrand, could you please not delete the local images of flags yet? Thomas apparently put a lot of work into those, and he's upset that they are now made obsolete. -- Yekrats 23:45, 22. Jun 2008 (UTC)
- Sure. However, please look into the difference between "doing the right things" and "doing things right". I haven't deleted any flags since we e-mailed about a week ago. Before that not more than a dozen or so, and only if unused. Siebrand 09:18, 23. Jun 2008 (UTC)
