I am a postdoctoral researcher, currently working on the project "Strategies of Collecting and Displaying China in Nineteenth-Century Germany: Gotha's Chinese Cabinet", funded by the German Research Foundation. The project explores the Chinese Cabinet founded by Emil Leopold August, Duke of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg (1772-1822), which was considered to be the largest Chinese collection in continental Europe during the early nineteenth century. Through a close reading of archival sources and objects, the project explores how narratives about China were formed through the acquisition and display of Chinese objects.
