Waterspouts or waterspouts in our Lake Maracaibo are very common and
are a Phenomenon consisting of an aggressive whirlwind presented by a cloud
column or as an inverted cloud cone in the shape of a sleeve that is born from a
cumulo-nimbus, and a body of pulverized water made up of drops raised from the
surface of the lake or sea or a small mirror of water raised from the surface of the
ground. It is also known as a tornado and when the waterspout manifests itself in
the sea or lake, it is called a waterspout and when it occurs on land, a tornado. In
general, the waterspouts that occur in the lake are small with a diameter of less
than 1 km and many reach less than 100 meters. They appear as cones or
inverted chimneys, which extend below the cloud and approach the ground surface
irregularly. The last water hose that was recorded in our state near the Lake
Maracaibo bridge was on August 23, 2018.
