This master thesis studies the clothing concepts from the early Middle Ages, between the fifth and the seventh century AD. This doing so by using the methodology of Penelope Walton Rogers. She reconstructs clothing concepts by using the position of the clothing accessories on the body of the deceased. The research of clothing concepts gives us a brief look in the daily life of someone out our past. In this thesis two questions will be answered: which clothing concepts did people used to wear during the early Middle Ages in Central-Belgium? What can we deduce from these early medieval clothing from Northwestern Europe? Because the investigation in Belgium is low profile this thesis explores the site of Harmignies to support further research.
