Licenciado em História – ramo científico pela Universidade Portucalense, mestre e doutor em Museologia pela Universidade do Porto é, actualmente, director do Departamento de Investigação e Formação da Sistemas do Futuro, Lda. e Professor Afiliado no Departamento de Ciências e Técnicas do Património da Faculdade de Letras da Universidade do Porto.
A sua actividade académica e profissional tem como principal foco a investigação na área da gestão e documentação de coleções em museus e paralelamente na utilização da tecnologia no sector do património cultural. Foi responsável pela primeira tradução da norma SPECTRUM para Português e faz actualmente parte da equipa que gere a tradução e adaptação da norma nos territórios de Portugal e Brasil através do projecto SPECTRUM PT (www.spectrum-pt.org). Tem como interesse de investigação as políticas de gestão de colecções, a normalização na documentação de colecções, a utilização das redes sociais no sector cultural e a divulgação das colecções recorrendo a ferramentas digitais e utilizando técnicas específicas como o storytelling.
É investigador do Centro de Investigação Transdisciplinar "Cultura Espaço e Memória" (CITCEM – www.citcem.org) e faz parte da direcção do Comité Internacional para a Documentação do ICOM - http://network.icom.museum/cidoc/.
É membro do ICOM Portugal.
É também autor do blog Mouseion (www.mouseion.pt) e coordenador do projecto MuseusPortugal (www.museusportugal.org).

Julgo que esta afirmação não poderá ser contestada por quem conhecer, ainda que brevemente, a história do seu desenvolvimento. É certo que inicialmente essas conexões eram distintas das que hoje são celebradas neste 18 de Maio, Dia Internacional de Museus (DIM), mas existiam e permitiram que os primeiros museus modernos, através de novos sistemas de classificação e organização das evidências materiais que recolhiam, fossem determinantes para a criação de conhecimento e das consequentes transformações sociais verificadas no último século.
Abstract: This article is the result of a research project developed under PhD studies in Museums Studies at the Faculty of Arts, University of Porto. Its general theme is Management of Collections, more speciically the Evaluation of this collections. is essay presents part of the results from the rst stage of this research, which consisted of eldwork carried out in three museums located in Sao Paulo, Brazil, including the Museu da Casa Brasileira, Museu da Imigração and Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo. e methodology used during this step consisted of interviews, technical visits and collection of evidence (documents) from which outlines will be developed and add some contributions to the topic in focus.

No total existem mais de 500 licenças (individuais ou de organização) da versão portuguesa da norma em ambos os territórios, sendo que o maior número está registado no Brasil. É, portanto, notório o interesse que este documento desperta.
Atualmente a norma é composta por um total de 21 procedimentos que refletem a atividade dos museus face às suas coleções. Desde a entrada dos objetos, à gestão das movimentações e localizações, passando pela catalogação até chegar ao abate e desincorporação, entre outros processos comummente usados, encontramos, na SPECTRUM, uma descrição exaustiva do que são consideradas as melhores práticas para a atuação das equipas dos museus em cada caso. No entanto, como pretende ser uma norma adotada por um grande número de museus, é possível escalonar a sua aplicação de acordo com a dimensão e objetivos de cada instituição.
Neste workshop iremos percorrer um pouco da história da norma, perceber como a podemos aplicar em diversos casos, com a ajuda dos Guias Técnicos SPECTRUM PT, e discutir o seu futuro olhando para a versão 5.0 recentemente publicada pela Collections Trust - http://collectionstrust.org.uk/spectrum/.

[PT] Neste capítulo (com Alexandre Matos) analisamos o panorama museológico português em termos de necessidades e da oferta formativa quanto às competências digitais, considerando a formação formal proporcionada pelos cursos de mestrado em museologia e a formação não formal dirigida aos profissionais de museus. Em relação aos planos curriculares dos mestrados em museologia, a pesquisa evidencia uma abordagem pouco estruturada às tecnologias, sendo globalmente introduzidas de forma muito pontual e fragmentada (ex. inventário e gestão de colecções). No que concerne à oferta de formação não formal também se identifica um enfoque residual e pouco estruturado quanto às competências digitais e à introdução das tecnologias. Propõe-se um investimento continuado e assertivo no desenvolvimento profissional, com acento nas competências digitais e no desenvolvimento tecnológico que permita, por sua vez, acompanhar as dinâmicas e as expectativas da sociedade contemporânea.
