Although, we do not know a lot about the origins of Armenian plant names. The etymology of Armenian plant names shows a new perspective on cultural and botanical knowledge of the Armenian speaking population. As we know from Indo-European studies, the evaluation of semantic fields allows us to reconstruct an Indo-European flora. Similarly, it is possible to evaluate the Armenian lexicon. The Armenian botanical vocabulary shows interesting details on plant use, plant origin, cultural and mythological context, medical use and precultural heritage. In contrast to Greek, Persian and Arabic influences Hittite, Urartian, Sumerian and Assyrian traces are waiting to be identified in the Armenian lexicon. Also, geo- and archaeobotanical data need to be included in this research. This interdisciplinary analysis of the botanical lexicon and its etymology should help further research of Armenian botanical and medical manuscripts.

Soon they were used as food, drugs and raw materials for the ongoing evolvement of human civilisation. Thus, plant names show incredible traces of human knowledge, beliefs and historical inter-and transcultural interactions. The " Macedonian " herb (Μαϊντανός/Μακεδονήσι) is such an example. It shows how a short form of a Greek plant name found its way into various neighbour languages and was later readopted in an alternated form into modern Greek. Further investigation on Armenian and Greek plant names of the " Macedonian " Petroselinum crispum (Apiaceae) shows similar terminological ideas on identical and similar botanical taxa. In this talk we will focus on this phenomenon and will discuss the impact of Greek botanical termini on Armenian termini and even further traces.

TIP or AP301) and its congener AP318, whose molecular structures mimic the lectin-like domain of human tumor necrosis factor (TNF), have been shown to activate the epithelial sodium channel (ENaC) in various cell- and animal-based studies. Loss-of-ENaC-function leads to a rare, life-threatening, salt-wasting syndrome, pseudohypoaldosteronism type 1B (PHA1B), which presents with failure to thrive, dehydration, low blood pressure, anorexia and vomiting; hyperkalemia, hyponatremia and metabolic acidosis suggest hypoaldosteronism, but plasma aldosterone and renin activity are high. The aim of the present study was to investigate whether the ENaC-activating effect of solnatide and AP318 could rescue loss-of-function phenotype of ENaC carrying mutations at conserved amino acid positions observed to cause PHA1B. The macroscopic Na(+) current of all investigated mutants was decreased compared to wild type ENaC when measured in who...
