Its predicament arises from, among other issues, the fact that an unhappy number of its young minds believe its raison d’etre, the idea of fundamentalism, untenable. As one who spent nine years both as student and faculty/staff at Bob Jones University I have had the opportunity to know personally a number of young minds who have strayed from fundamentalism, others who have stayed, and yet others who straddle the fence. At the same, I was uniquely situated on the inside of the institution’s faculty/staff circles to hear what is said there.

A secondary purpose is to argue against two positions on the subject of divorce and remarriage that appear to have become common primarily within certain conservative circles: 1) that remarriage after a divorce is actually living in a state of continual adultery, and 2) that it is God's will for people who get saved, after having been divorced and remarried, to divorce their second spouse and return to their first spouse.

This essay argues (1) that these surveys misread the extrabiblical data, (2) that examples of κόμη as the object ο}εχω high light the viability of taking κόμη as the implied object of εχων in 1 Cor 11:4, (3) that two significant church fathers understood the covering to which Paul refers to be or include κόμη, and (4) that data in the context of 1 Cor 11:2-16 better supports understanding κόψη as the covering Paul has in mind.

Proverbs 2 picks up the “righteousness and justice and equity” theme (2:9a) and sketches the relationship of wisdom and its ethical ramifications (2:5–11). Proverbs 10–12 reflects at length on “righteousness, justice, and equity.” Proverbs 13–24 correspond to the “every good path” appended to “righteousness and justice and equity” in Proverbs 2:9b. Finally, I suggest that the additions of 25–29, 30, and 31 may have been justified by the “every good path” expansion of 2:9b.
