We have herein focused on measurement of concentration of an analyte (cobalt) in the presence of other serving as the interfering species (iron). 4-[3-hydroxy-3-(4-methylphenyl) triaz-1-ene-1-yl] benzene sulfonamide (HTSN) was employed as the reagent in the presence of Triton x-100 which served as surfactant). The analytical signals were measured using two different wavelengths, λ1(390)and λ2 (418). The analytical utility of adopted method has been tested and verified under the optimized conditions such as- pH of the medium, colour development of complex and reagent concentration etc. The molar absorptivity was found to be74413 and 41691 L mol-1 cm-1 with excellent root mean square value 0.9992 and 0.9984 for Co (II) and Fe (III), respectively. The RSD values were1.01 and 2.56 for Co and Fe, respectively. The whole methodology is simple, rapid ...

Himalayan region always has been the treasure of herbs from ancient time. Himalayan herbs are highest in quality and potency. There are numbers of side effect are noted using allopathic medicines which leads towards reuse of medicinal plants available locally. Keeping this in view an attempt has been made to enumerate the common medicinal plants used in traditional therapeutic system of Uttarakhand, India. Results reveal that 29 plant species are used for primary healthcare. Purnagiri hills located in Champavat district of Uttarakhand is reservoir for a large number of medicinal herbs during the field survey large number of medicinal plants like Adina cordifolia (Roxb.) Ammonium persulphate (APS) acted as the oxidizing agent. Synthesis of PANI and its copolymer was done followed by characterization using FTIR analysis to assess bonding pattern. Detection of copolymer, its crystallinity and orientation was achieved using XRD technique. To determine the heat resistance of the copolymer, TGA was employed. One of the prominent uses of synthetic poly (aniline-co-o-nitroaniline) is that it is used as a semiconducting material in many electronic devices.

The presentation describes the real case of an engagement dealing with the business problem of low profitability, measured by key performance indicator “contribution margin”. Furthermore, it illustrates how the business problem was converted into a statistical problem, how it was analyzed using simple statistical techniques to resolve the same and later conclude the statistical result in business language leading to increased profitability. The presentation is targeted for engagement managers without detailed statistical background who wants to carry out improvements using simple statistical techniques.

Group I patients (n = 35) received tablet ranitidine 150 mg twice daily along with tablet aspirin 600 mg three times a day while Group II patients received only tablet ranitidine 150 mg twice daily. Eight patients (four in each group) dropped out of the trial but were included in the final analysis as failure of treatment. At the end of four weeks 51.4% ulcers healed in Group I compared to 58.8% in Group II. The difference between the two groups was not significant. There was also no statistical difference in the time required for relief of pain, number of patients relieved of pain and the complication rate. It is concluded that aspirin concurrently administered with ranitidine is safe and does not delay the healing of uncomplicated duodenal ulcers.

The beam parameters and the interaction cavity geometry calculations are performed for the selected operating mode TE25;10. The detail of mode selection process is also presented. The mode competition is studied in terms of the start oscillation current and coupling coe-cient. TE22;11 and TE25;10 are found as the most competing modes to the operating mode. The magnetic fleld at the cavity center is calculated directly from the frequency and detuned up to an optimum value to achieve the maximum e-ciency. MAGIC code is used in the power and frequency calculations. The electron beam is launched at the flrst co-rotating maxima of the operating mode during the MAGIC simulations to obtain maximum beam-wave interaction e-ciency. The results show more than 300kW power at 670GHz frequency at TE25;10 mode.

The records of all patients with histologically confirmed GIM were screened. Out of 83380 outdoor patients registered in the department over 10 years, there were a total of 1751 (2.1%) patients with GIM. The relative distribution of malignancy according to site was esophagus 36.0%, stomach 19.9%, liver secondaries 13.9%, colon 9.8%, periampullary 5.6%, gall pladder 4.5%, duodenum 3.0%, malignant ascites 2.6%, HCC 2.3% and pancreas 1.1%. Mean age for cancer of esophagus was 53.5 +/- 11.4 year, stomach 51.8 +/- 12.9, colon 49.1 +/- 16.7, duodenum 45.3 +/- 11.4, malignant ascites 51.8 +/- 13.1, pancreas 46.9 +/- 15.3 and HCC 52.5 +/- 12 years with an overall mean age of all GIM being 49.7 +/- 13.4 years. All malignancies were common in males except for c...

Sixty percent (18/30) of severe ulcerative colitis were in remission after mean duration of 9.2 days (range 2-20 days) of intensive intravenous therapy without major side effects of steroids. Factors predicting poor response to medical therapy on admission are: stool frequency > or = 9 per day, pulse rate > or = 120/minute, temperature > or = 38 degrees C, Albumin < or = 2 gm, mucosal tags on plain x-ray abdomen and pancolitis.

There was, however, no response to antitubercular treatment and enteroscopic biopsy revealed it to be an adenocarcinoma. This case illustrates the role of enteroscopy and biopsy in the definitive diagnosis of high small bowel strictures.

T... more Percutaneous catheter drainage (PCD) was performed in 12 pancreatic pseudocysts in 11 patients. The procedure was performed under realtime ultrasound guidance adopting a direct transperitoneal approach in all cases. Complete cure was achieved in 9 (75%) of the Pseudocysts drained. Success rate was higher in pseudocysts not communicating with the main pancreatic duct (MPD), 7 of 8 (87.5%) as compared to those with ductal communication, 2 of 4 (50%). The mean duration of catheter drainage was 14.2 days in the first group while it was significantly longer, (42.5 days) in the latter group. No death or major complication related to the procedure was encountered in the study. A single pseudocyst got infected after catheter insertion but it was treated successfully with antibiotics. The follow up period was 3-18 months with a mean of 6.8 months. PCD failed in 2 pseudocysts communicating with MPD and associated strictures in the MPD. In one case having no communication with MPD the procedur...

There were a total of 78 malignant and 170 benign lesions. IM was present in 53% of patients with gastric carcinoma (GC) and in 10.6% with benign lesions of the stomach. The IM in association with GC was of type 1 (Small Intestinal) in 58.8%; type II (mixed gastric and small intestinal) in 11.8% and type III (Colonic) in 29.4%. In patients with benign lesions the IM was predominantly of type I (94.5%) except in 1 patient who had type III metaplasia. Our findings indicate that type III IM was significantly more frequent in patient with GC than with benign lesions (29.4% Vs 5.5%; p < .005). Therefore we conclude that patients with type III IM should be kept on surveillance for GC.
