This is confirmed by data on the number of tourists and overnight stays, followed by pronounced economic effects. Modern tourism business requires a trained and skilled workforce. This is especially important if we take into account that tourism is a labor-intensive industry. The man is the main service producer. Education of the staff for work in the service sector requires knowledge from various fields (geography, economics, sociology, management, philology, psychology, ecology, technology, medicine, etc.). Consequently, tourism workers must possess a broad general and humanistic culture and education. The aim of this paper is to analyze the study programmes of higher education institutions from Serbia which educate staff in the field of tourism and hospitality. This will point out the multidisciplinary knowledge required in both operational as well in the managerial and scientific-research sector. The paper was publishe...

To this day, there is controversy about the environmental, economic and socio-cultural sustainability of this global industry. Although selective forms are increasingly being promoted, mass tourism is still dominant, with many consequences. Its impacts are especially visible in small and sensitive areas, with many visitors and associated infrastructure (uncontrolled urbanization). Therefore, this paper aims to point out the sustainability of its development in the area of the mountain center Zlatibor in southwestern Serbia. As one of the most visited destinations after the capital of Belgrade and Vrnjačka Banja Spa, in the last two decades have been under increasing pressure that exceeds its capacity. The European Union methodology for comparative indicators of sustainable tourism was used. The survey was supplemented by an analysis of official statistics. The obtained results highlighted numerous problems in terms ...

Daily influence of anthropogenic factors reduces the environmental quality of the cities. The social awareness of nature conservation for the present and future generations is becoming more developed. Therefore, the green zones are significant on the one hand for the daily functioning of the population, and on the other hand as part of the tourist offer. The aim of this paper is inventarization and valorization of protected natural assets in the City of Belgrade, in order to create integrated tourist offer. We used the available domestic and international literature dealing with the issue of tourism development in urban areas, as well as existing spatial planning legislation. The results showed that, with adequate management, natural resources in urban areas could sustain the ecological function, but also could develop additional, such as tourism function. In the second half of the twentieth century this branch of tourism attracted a significant segment of tourist demand, both domestic and foreign. Serbia has many Special hospitals for rehabilitation in its spa resorts. In the last two decades the emphasis is not on treatment (rehabilitation). The health improvement has taken priority over "classic balneological treatment of disease". Wellness/spa has become a key tourism product in such destinations. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to determine the effects of transformation of rehabilitation hospitals into wellness centers, in several, most visited Serbian spa resorts.Hotellink: časopis za hotelijerstvo, restoraterstvo i gastronomiju, ISSN 1451-5113; vol. 17, no. 27-2

Mountain areas represent significant potential for the development of the year-round tour...

The research was carried out in the Tara National Park (NP)in western Serbia, which includes karst landscapes. By conducting surveys with visitors, local population, and National Park employees, as well as interviews with local key persons, NP key persons and external experts, we got a deeper understanding of the issues related to knowledge on karst and PAs. We also investigated whether local people or visitors knew the values of karst landscapes in general and how they were informed or learned about the Tara NP. In addition, we also analysed the content of these topics in school curricula and textbooks in Serbia. We concluded that the awareness about the researched topics is unsatisfactory at present thus it should be raised to a higher level, both in the case of local people and in the case of visitors. The survey method was applied to a sample of 405 respondents (197 community members and 208 visitors). In addition, 15 interviews with specific key actors (NP executives and local key persons) were performed. The research confirmed the presence of different types of conflicts among stakeholders, mostly between the NP and the local population (primarily farmers) associated with land use in agriculture and the ban on the construction of facilities. The community recognizes tourism as the highest priority, unlike the NP leaders and visitors, who emphasize protection and conservation (especially biodiversity) as the primary goals of future NP development. The opinions of the local population are divided concerning support for the existence of the NP and the importance of it as a part of the national heritage. Most...

Known as a "hotspot of biodiversity", it faces many challenges. Therefore, the main objective of this paper is to indicate the system of protection of the park by the application of geographic information system (GIS) and to emphasise the importance of sustainable tourism development in connection with this. Conditionally, the paper will include four segments: the first, defining the area of the Lake Skadar, the second, the protection systems and regimes, the third, the existing and potential tourist activities on the lake, while the final section will sublimate all the findings accumulated during the study. The geo-ecological analysis of the area will help the organization of tourist activities and undertaking measures in the field of environmental protection.

Tara NP has a rich geoheritage, especially its karst phenomena, which include gorges (e.g. the 1000-m-deep Drina Gorge), plateaus with dolines, dry valleys, and uvalas as well as springs and travertines. In addition, ophiolites also enrich the geoheritage; hence, the area has a high geodiversity. Large reservoirs of the territory provide an opportunity to study the anthropogenic impact on hydrology and geomorphology. After presenting the geoheritage elements of the area, we examine the views and knowledge of local people and visitors about karst and geotourism with the help of a questionnaire survey. The results show that local residents support the further development of tourism, but geotourism is a rather new concept for them. On the contrary, tourists are more familiar with geotourism.
