Making use of a multi-situated and extended ethnographic case study, it offers a relational and contextual interpretation of the historical phenomenon of the marchantes and their practice of “leaving children” from indigenous communities on the Bolivian border with Chile. We analyze oral sources, complemented by documentary ones, to detail the experiences of local actors and their universe of meanings. As a result, we argue that the marchantes were “cultural mediators” in the (re) production of the alterity of the frontier, using sociocultural practices that were inscribed in local kinship customs.

In particular, we investigate the continued validity of the highland model of patrilineage and the operation of so-called "succesorial communities", their relationship with the land as a collective resource and the customary mechanisms applied to this goal, as well as the legal strategies that these Andean subjects have developed within the framework of regional socio-historical processes. As results, we observe the validity of the patrilineal principle in access to land ownership, and the concomitant importance of lineage in terms of defining access to land ownership. Key words: Aymara societies, descendent principles, land ownership access, Andean Highland, Northern Chile.

nature, socio-cultural and historical factors that
influence the configuration of processes and population

Chile. From ethnographic background of Arica and
Parinacota region, considering cases of Codpa Valley
and Visviri sector, we perform an analytical prospecting
about the motivations of migration (expulsion factors
of origin sector), the attraction factors to the target
area, migration as a family strategy, and the cyclical
dynamics of internal migration rural - urban. As a result,
we identify some of the historical migration routes
as well as the logical and social institutions which have
supported the creation of social networks of indigenous

In this sense, health is a construction according to cultural, historical, social and bio-ecological processes, where it is built, in turn, defining subjects and spaces of production and reproduction of knowledge and roles in health modulated by hegemony and subalternation relationship. Accordingly, in this paper we examine the possibility to complement the disciplinary approaches between medical anthropology and epidemiology. Analysing some methodological aspects of the experience of building epidemiological profiles of the indigenous peoples at Chile, we consider especially the Region of Arica-Parinacota case. As results, we reviewed the possibility for a common subject construction integrating epidemiological and anthropological perspectives, describing some methodological issues on drawing an epidemiological profile of the indigenous patterns of morbidity and mortality, considering specially some aspects of the epidemiological profile of the Aymara people at northern Chile.
