Nevertheless, in a dry mode several problems arise, such as aggregation, agglomeration, sticking on the liners and the grinding media. The present paper deals with experiments carried out on the ultrafine cement grinding in dry mode at various grinding conditions in a stirred media mill to study the mechanochemical effect and the energy efficiency of the mill. Furthermore, comparative grinding experiments were carried out in a ball mill aimed at, first of all, studying the effect of the two grinding modes on the crystal structure of cement. It was found, based on the experimental results, that there is a mechanochemical effect on crystal structure of cement, mostly in the stirred media mill, as it was revealed by X-ray diffraction. Regarding the comparison of the ball mill and the stirred media mill, more energy-effective grinding was achieved in the latter. In addition, the experimental results from the stirred media mill made it possible to determine the effect of the rotor circumferential speed on the mechanical activation of cement.
Fly ash is a pozzolanic powdery residue collected in electric or mechanical dust collectors follo... more Fly ash is a pozzolanic powdery residue collected in electric or mechanical dust collectors following combustion of coal in coal fired power plants. A relatively new method of utilizing fly ash might be the direct application of mechanically activated (ground) fly ash as an individual hydraulic binder. There are many possible applications of this cheap binder, among others, the road construction industry can use it in large quantities, reducing the costs and solving environmental problems as well. According to the experimental results carried out at the Institute of Raw Material Preparation and Environmental Process Engineering at the University of Miskolc the pozzolanic activity of fly ash can be readily controlled by fine grinding in order to produce a hydraulic binder. Another prosperous application of power station fly ash is the manufacture of geopolymer products. The utilization of this by-product as a geopolymer raw material can effectively solve the environmental risk due to...

Based on the existing literature sources, we examined the utilization of apple pomace, and although there are several possibilities, they are not applicable in this case, or are incomplete. Via measurements the relevant material properties of apple pomace have been determined. Systematic grinding experiments were carried out on the raw material in an ultra centrifugal mill, examining the effect of different rotor speed and the opening size of the ring sieve on the ground material, resulting that the finest product can be achieved by 75 m/s circumferential speed and 0.5 mm sieve. As the result of the basic studies, a new kind of combined apple processing technology is recommended of which detailed experiments are already running. The new feature of this is an enrichment process when seeds are separated for oil pressing, while the pressing residue and the other ...

These types of cements are also called clinker reduced, environmentally – friendly cements. The present article deals with the Tromp curves of a SEPOL type separator originating from industrial experiments on a cement ball mill in closed circuit with a classifier carried out at the Holcim cement plant in Miskolc, Hungary. During the experimental work, blastfurnace slag, synthetic gypsum and filter dust were fed into the ball mill in addition to clinker with different throughputs. The Tromp curve of an air classifier generally has a particular form. Accordingly, special parameters can be used for the evaluation of classification efficiency as well as the x50-median and the curve slope, e.g. τ – the minimum point of the c...

The increased use of lignite has substantially increased the available quantities of lignite fired power plant fly ash, which can be main-ly classified as class C fly ash. The utilization of such raw material however has some difficulties. In the present paper lignite fired power station fly ash and metallurgical converter slag were used for the pro-duction of geopolymer concrete. The fly ash was used as a geopolymer based binder material, and a con-verter slag as aggregate, thus created a geopolymer concrete which contains mainly industrial wastes. As preliminary test experimental series were carried out using andesite as aggregate. The optimal aggre-gate/binder ratio was determined. The effect of the amount of alkaline activator solution in the binder, the aggregate type on the geopolymer concretes’ compressive stren...
