Twenty-four of 52 cats (46.2%) with ataxia and other neurologic symptoms of unknown cause were positive for antibodies to BDV p10 and/or p24. In contrast, cats without neurological symptoms gave a significantly lower prevalence of anti-BDV antibodies to p10 and/or p24 (36 of 152 cats, 23.7%). Thirty specific pathogen-free (SPF) cats tested as controls were uniformly negative to BDV pl0 and p24 antigens. These results suggest that BDV may play a role in ataxia in cats. Additionally, our results suggest that it is necessary to use both p10 and p24 as antigens to detect circulating antibodies to BDV in cats.

Th... more Post-transplant erythrocytosis (PTE) is defined as an increase in hematocrit greater than 51%. This phenomenon affects 5 to 17% of renal transplant patients within two years of transplantation. Its etiology is not clearly known, but several factors have been implicated in its pathogenesis. We report on a 50-year-old male, known to have autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease, diabetes mellitus and hypertension for 20 years, who underwent a living unrelated donor transplantation. Three years following renal transplan-tation, he was noted to have high hemogloblin and hematocrit (18.3 gm%, 53.8%). This erythrocytosis persisted for nine months during which period he underwent multiple phlebotomies before undergoing spontaneous remission. He did not develop any compli-cations of erythrocytosis. Our patient had multiple factors to account for occurrence of PTE: diabetes mellitus, hypertension, mild allograft dysfunction, polycystic kidney disease and cyclosporin therapy. Our case suggests that multiple factors may be operative in a given patient leading to the development of PTE.

Comparative study. Diabetes control clinic of Shaikh Zayed Hospital, Lahore, a tertiary care hospital, was the venue. The study was conducted during March 2002 to August 2003. Timed overnight urine samples were collected from all subjects and albumin was estimated using Radioimmunoassay (RIA) method. Albumin excretion rate (AER) was assessed in three groups including normals, Type 1 and Type 2 diabetics. AER over 30 microg/min was considered as significant. A significantly higher proportion of AER was observed in both types of diabetes. A higher proportion of increased AER was observed in females of Type 2 diabetics. The study has indicated that irrespective of the duration and type of diabetes the damage to the kidney can be avoided if good glycemic control is achieved.

This change has been possible due to social web platforms like forums, wikis, and blogs. Blogs are more commonly being used as a form of virtual communication to express an opinion about an event, product or experience and can reach a large audience. Users can influence others to buy a product, have certain political or social views, etc. Therefore, identifying the most influential bloggers has become very significant as this can help us in the fields of commerce, advertisement and product knowledge searching. Existing approaches consider some basic features, but lack to consider some other features like the importance of the blog on which the post has been created. This paper presents a new metric, MIIB (Metric for Identification of Influential Bloggers), based on various features of bloggers' productivity and popularity. Productivity refers to bloggers' blogging activity and popularity measures bloggers' influence in the blogging community. The novel module of BlogRank depicts the importance of blog sites where bloggers create their posts. The MIIB has been evaluated against the standard model and existing metrics for finding the influential bloggers using dataset from the real-world blogosphere. The obtained results confirm that the MIIB is able to find the most influential bloggers in a more effective manner.

She developed oliguric renal failure requiring hemodialysis. She remained dialysis dependent for five weeks and subsequently renal function recovered fully. She remained nephrotic and responded to a six week course of corticosteroids. She was followed for two years during which she had two relapses, which responded to steroids. Acute renal failure is uncommon in MCGN and is due to acute tubular necrosis induced by hypovolemia or drugs. This patient did not have any obvious precipitating factor, which led to acute reversible renal failure.

In producing flavours, it is important to be able to quantitatively follow the course of this reaction system and thence control it by manipulating key input parameters, such as temperature, pH, type and concentration of the sugar and amino acid.

The current study aimed to report the indigenous medicinal knowledge of plants and herbal remedies used as folk medicines in Cholistan desert, Punjab Province, Pakistan. Rapid appraisal approach (RAA), semi-structured interviews, group meetings with herbalists, landowners and local people having awareness about the medicinal action of plants were employed to collect the data. This study reports 70 medicinal plants belonging to 27 families that were disseminated among 60 different genera and Poaceae was the predominant family over others with 13 reported medicinal plants. Among plant parts, leaves were the dominant over others with 26.4% used in herbal preparations followed by the stem (25.2%), fruit (21.5%), flower (16.3%), seed (6.5%), bark and pod (02%). Haloxylon recurvum exhibited the highest use vale (UV) 0.83 while least UV was exhibited by Mollugo cerviana that was 0.16. Important medicinal plants, reported in this study have been screened for phytochemical and pharmaceutical activities in different parts of the globe. It is recommended that reported medicinal plants having potent action for cancer and hepatitis must be screened for pharmacological activities.
