I have been working on research problems at the cutting edge in theoretical quantum optics. In particular, I have focused on the applications of entangled light to quantum imaging and sensing. This is a subject which is currently of great interest as it can lead not only to new fundamental results but also to new types of imaging systems and sensors working at quantum level.

Our concept involves the utilization of single-photon quantum emitters to generate a stand-alone evanescent wave. We demonstrate that the quantum interference effects of single-photon emitters, in conjunction with their near-field, result in a higher resolution of subwavelength structures than systems that are only quantum enhanced or only near-field enhanced. We believe that nano-sized emitters could be employed to accomplish the goals of this research, taking into account the current progress in nanophotonics and quantum optics technology.

Since many strains can easily become resistant to many antibiotics, various treatment mechanisms against MRSA infections have begun to be developed. Various disinfectants, detergents, organic solvents and chemicals have been tried to create synergistic effects either by themselves or by combining them with innovative methods. In this study, photodynamic therapy on MRSA strains and adjuvant effect of ethanol were assessed. In photodynamic therapy applications, 655-nm laser light and chlorine e6 dissolved in ethanol were used. Using ethanol as an adjuvant therapy increased activity of Clorine e6 with quite low dose of light energy and photosensitizer concentration resulting in sufficient antibacterial effect. The energy dose of light and the concentration of the photosensitizer were reduced substantially so that healthy cells would not be damaged in in vivo or clinical studies.

Over the years, strains of S. aureus have become resistant to existing antibiotics. This has led to the research and development of different treatment modalities to treat infections caused by multi drug resistant bacteria. Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) is an alternative treatment technique investigated for this purpose. PDT is, by definition, a method that produce toxic compounds to the infected region by stimulating the light-sensitive substance with a light source at a certain wavelength. In this respect, the death of resistant bacteria is ensured. In this study, chlorin e6 (Ce6) was used at different concentrations as a light sensitive substance with 655 nm laser light source with diode pump working at maximum 2 Watt power. Effective photodynamic therapy with Ce6 resulted in effective mortality rates on Multi drug resistant S. aureus strain.

Strains of P. aeruginosa have become resistant because of misusing and abusing of antibiotics. As bactericide resistance to antibiotics makes treatment difficult, this has led to the research for alternative treatment methods. Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) is an alternative treatment technique investigated for this purpose. PDT refers to the photoinactivation of microorganisms by reactive oxygen species produced by a light-activated and light-sensitive substance with a light source at certain wavelength. In this respect, the death of resistant bacteria is ensured. In this study, chlorin e6 (Ce6) was used at different concentrations as a light sensitive substance with 655 nm laser light source with diode pump working at maximum 2 Watt power. In addition, ethanol was used as an adjuvant during this application and the effect of antibacterial photodynamic therapy was tried to be increased. Photodynamic therapy with Ce6 resulted in quite effective mortality rates on antibiotic resistant P. aeruginosa strain.
