In this paper we discuss that visit from three different perspectives. Firstly, we consider the conditions that allowed for such visit to be possible. Then we focus on the institutional actors that facilitated it, as well as on the expertise and written references on topics related to relativity theory circulating at the time in the local community. In the last section we consider the implications of that visit for the local scientific environment.

In particular, we discussed the impact of his visit to Argentina in 1925, and the precise content of the conferences and scientific publications that Einstein communicated while he was here. We have also discussed, critically, different documents on topics related to the theory of relativity published in the country during the first decades of the last century, in which the technical level was extremely varied. Finally, we have dealt with a forgotten document, which Einstein prepared for his visit but, once in the country, thought it convenient not to communicate. In the present work, which is part of that same line of research, we propose to consider the scientific, cultural and pedagogical career of Enrique Loedel Palumbo (1901-1962), who was one of the main local actors during Einstein's visit to Argentina. He was also one of the founders of the research on...

The coefficient vector of the approximate solution is defined implicitly by a very sparse system of linear algebraic equations. The contributions of the differential or functional operator, and of the supplementary conditions of the problem (initial, boundary, or multipoint conditions) are treated with a single and versatile procedure of remarkable simplicity, which can be easily implemented in a computer. We give two nontrivial examples on the application of this approach: the first is a nonlinear boundary value problem with a continuous locus of singular points and multiple solutions, where stiffness is present, the second is a functional differential equation arising in analytic number theory. In both cases we obtain results of nigh accuracy.

Among other particularities, his visit was, at a certain point, somewhat disconcerting: not only because of the complexity of his ideas, but also because of his appearance, which did not fit with the image of the wise visitor firmly seated in the minds of his interlocutors. His openness and tendency to ironize, especially in his first interviews with the press, first disorientated journalists and later also some members of his intellectual audience. Einstein, then, forced a revision of both the image of the wise man and that of spacetime.

The proof is based on Ascoli's theorem with the assumption that f is locally Lipschitzian and f(j) = j, j = 0, 1. Under such conditions the problem, with boundary conditions y(0) = 1, y(∞) = 0, has at least one solution. Numerical results are also given.

As a result of this, a new recursive formulation of Galerkin's Method is deduced. Furthermore, it is shown that the Galerkin's Method is a special form of a Tau Method with a weighted polynomial basis. Examples of application to the numerical approximation of linear and nonlinear partial differential equations, defined on bounded and unbounded domains, are also given.
