Sophia Messini
Dr. Sophia Messini is currently affiliated with the CIVIS Office at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. She holds a Doctorate (PhD) in Big Data Analysis within the field of Political Science, complemented by a Master of Arts (MA) in New Media & Journalism from the Department of Communication, Media & Culture at Panteion University. Dr. Messini's academic foundation is further strengthened by dual Bachelor's degrees: one in Accounting from the Department of Management and Economics at the Technological Educational Institute of Western Greece, and another in Communication & Mass Media from the Department of Communication and Media Studies at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
Since November 2021, Dr. Messini has been serving as Administrative Staff at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, specifically within the CIVIS - European Citizens' University Office. In this capacity, she undertakes a range of responsibilities encompassing administrative support and financial management, including the coordination of academic travels, the preparation and submission of sub-project budgets, the processing of payments for suppliers, and the management of partner contracts.
In addition to her primary role, Dr. Messini contributes her expertise as a part-time external collaborator at the Career Office of Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences.
Dr. Messini's involvement in research is extensive. Since January 2020, she has played a key role in the administrative support of several Erasmus research projects, including InterMEDs and RIPEC. Her research endeavors have expanded further since 2022 with active engagement in the ELIDEK SERP-19 and the Erasmus+ DiFree Digital Freelancing projects. Moreover, she currently serves as a coordinator for the Erasmus project G-Force.
An active participant in the academic community, Dr. Messini has presented her research at numerous conferences. Her scholarly interests are situated at the intersection of communication and media studies, journalism, the semiotic analysis of political behavior, big data mining from social media, sentiment analysis, political communication, and computational social sciences.
Dr. Messini is a respected member of several professional societies, including the Greek Society of Political Science, the Greek Association of Scientists in Communication, Journalism & Culture, and the Hellenic Semiotic Society.
