University libraries in Nigeria are struggling within lean financial resources to provide electro... more University libraries in Nigeria are struggling within lean financial resources to provide electronic information resources for their clients. Studies have indicated poor use of library electronic resources. This study thus set out to investigate whether the lecturers possesses the skills to effectively use the electronic resources. The study probed into the information literacy, computer competence level of the lecturers and their use of electronic resources. Questionnaire survey was conducted for the study. A total of 125 of the questionnaires administered were duly completed, retrieved and analysed. The study found that the lecturers were information literate, possess computer competence and use electronic resources. They have access to and do use the internet and the library portal. The study among others recommends training and re-training for the academic staff in the effective use of electronic information resources.

This study examined library services provision in the south-western part of Nigeria. It was found out that despite their incarceration, inmates desires variety of information; whereas the library stock is grossly inadequate and managed by non-librarians. The study recommends among others readership promotion campaign, organized library visit by library associations to the prisons; as well as the provision of outreach services to the inmates by nearby public libraries.

Despite the richness of these web applications and their enormous impact on library and information services as recorded in the developed world, Nigerian academic libraries are yet to deploy and overcome the challenges of active participation in the application and use of these new technologies to library services. This paper reviewed various success stories of the Web 2.0 technologies to library and information services delivery around the world; competencies required and why Nigerian academic librarians should adopt, embrace and apply Web 2.0 to their academic library services. This paper is an assessment of library services provision to prison inmates in South-West Nigeria... more This paper is an assessment of library services provision to prison inmates in South-West Nigeria. The questionnaire method was adopted. Responses were collated and analyzed. The study revealed that inmates have a variety of information needs which are not adequately met. It noted that Library stocks in the prison libraries are grossly inadequate and poorly managed. It also revealed that the collections are managed by staff without training in information management and handling. It noted inadequate attention from government and society. The study recommends readership promotion campaigns, organized library visits by the library association to prisons, as well as provision of outreach services to inmates by nearby public libraries.
