A simplified heat and mass transfer numerical model has been developed with inputparameters based on the actual metrological data of a Moroccan climate. For its validation, a comparativestudy is performed in this work; the present model is solved to simulate the solar drying of pine woodusing experimental data of previous wood drying experiments. The average relative discrepanciesbetween the model predicted and experimental data are 1,2% for wood moisture content, 1% for dryingair temperature and 5% for the air relative humidity. The close agreement between the predicted andexperimental results shows the ability of the model to reproduce experimental drying data for wood

This work is an experimental study of the modifications induced by an annealing treatment, on the structural, electrical and optical properties of indium oxide (In 2 O 3 ). The results show important changes of different parameters determined after annealing. The films obtained after annealing at 350 °C for 3 hours under oxygen atmosphere have a good cristallinity. These films showed a transmittance of more than 80% in the visible region and a conductivity >10 3 (Ω.cm) −1 .

The obtained results concerning the dielectric constant (e’) and the dielectric loss factor (e’’) for the studied woods are different and depend as well on the frequencies zone and the anisotropy directions. Two principal critical frequencies values (1.14 GHz and 7.49 GHz) are shown respectively for the dielectric constant and dielectric loss factor measurements. The dielectric properties are greater in the longitudinal direction than in radial and tangential directions for all samples.

Wave velocities are measured on Douglas discs samples and on bars obtained from slicing discs. The experimentations are carried under cantilever conditions. Elasticity modulus and densities are determined in free vibrations. The results show a significant difference in propagation velocity between waves propagating in whole volume and waves guided on bars. Under cantilevering conditions the modulus of elasticity increases with the applied stress. The acoustic anisotropy of wood is discussed and the simulation of stress wave form was presented. 1. INTRODUCTION Wood quality is related to growing conditions, environment and silvicultural practices. Wood may contain natural defects which can be divided in two categorises, the first one includes all malformations ...

The changes observed in dielectric properties due to brown-rot decay of ACW showed loss in wood density (the mean densities of the sound and decayed heartwood specimens of 12% moisture content were 595 and 531 kg.cm, respectively). The results obtained indicated a direct relationship between dielectric constants decrease and density loss over the whole frequency range. The effect of thickness is also observed. The dielectric constant and the dielectric loss factor showed an important increase with the increase of the thickness, especially at low frequencies. Therefore the decrease in the values of the dielectric constants could be used as a good indicator of early ...

This was a new application of the electrical impedances spectroscopy (EIS) in plant science. Various stripping coefficients (CD) were applied on the trees. Bark stripping is expected to affect water metabolism of leaves and therefore changes in the EIS parameters are expected as well. Single-DCE (ZARC) model was used as equivalent circuit for leaves. Several electrophysiological parameters of this model were compared with moisture content (MC) of the leaves. Intracellular resistance (Ri), extracellular resistance (Re) and relaxation time (τ) of the leaves increased during 14 days after stripping while the distributed coefficient (Ψ) and MC decreased. Significant correlation between EIS parameters, MC and trees treatments were found.
Parameters characterizing wood and air were studied in order to analyze the performance of a wood... more Parameters characterizing wood and air were studied in order to analyze the performance of a wood solar dryer functioning under Moroccan climate. A mathematical model based on the climate data of Rabat city was used to investigate theoretically the wood drying process. Two wood species—thuya (Tetraclinis articulate) and pine (Pinus pinaster)—were examined in the present study. The results obtained by computer simulations are in good agreement with the experimental values. Furthermore, our findings indicate that the use of a global mass transfer coefficient for low temperature convective and homogenous drying conditions allows the influence of the principal operating parameters (wood thickness, wood density, air temperature, air velocity and ventilation mode) on the drying time to be estimated with great accuracy. Analyses pertaining to the two studied wood species revealed that(1) pine dries more quickly than thuya, (2) the drying process is faster in the summer relative to other seasons, (3) increasing the air velocity by 100% results in a 20% reduction in the drying time, and (4)continued ventilation reduces the drying time by 43%.
