This paper presents an overview of ‘Lexpresso’, a Controlled Natural Language developed at the Defence Science & Technology Or-ganisation as a bidirectional natural language interface to a high-level information fusion system. The paper describes Lexpresso’s main fea-tures including lexical coverage, expressiveness and range of linguistic syntactic and semantic structures. It also touches on its tight integration with a formal semantic formalism and tentatively classifies it against the PENS system.

This report describes the objectives, development and initial implementation of an SDS within a prototype command environment. It includes design decisions and solutions to problems encountered during development as well as comments regarding ongoing and planned future research that have emerged through these activities.

In this paper we describe how our revolutionary implementation of an automated high level information fusion system addresses these grand challenges. Our innovative system processes real-time heterogeneous information sources, including track data, as well as spoken and written English language, transforming all inputs into a rich canonical semantic form for deep automated reasoning. Users can engage in real-time Question Answering with Virtual Advisers and a Virtual Battlespace using spoken and written English and haptic devices. This solution offers the prospect of comprehensive situation awareness.

We describe a method through our agent-based high-level information fusion system to automate the detection of illegal fishing, thereby providing analysts with real-time indicators, warnings, and a question and answering capability. By automated reasoning over fused human-and sensor-derived sources we demonstrate the capacity to automatically infer candidate cases, which may enable authorities to take action in a timely fashion.
