This study evaluates the potential of bacteriophages as an alternative to antibiotics against XDR isolates of K. pneumoniae. Methods- Thirty-one neonatal sepsis-causing Klebsiella spp. were collected, and K. pneumoniae were identified using both conventional and molecular techniques. Phenotypic and genotypic detection of ESBL (extended spectrum beta-lactamase) and carbapenem resistance was performed by disk diffusion and polymerase chain reaction (PCR). To isolate bacteriophages, sewage water samples were collected and enriched using reference host bacteria. Distinct morphological phage plaques were isolated by double layer agar assay (DLA). Characterization of bacteriophages was performed based on host range, temperature (4°C - 80°C upon 1 h incubation), pH (1-14 ...

So, this study aimed to test the level and nature of bacterial contamination of such cosmetics. A total of 27 cosmetics comprising eight lipsticks, nine powders, and ten creams were bought from New Market and Tejgaon areas of Dhaka city and tested. Bacteria was detected in 85.2% of samples. Majority of the samples (77.8%) exceeded the limit given by the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI), Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). Both Gram-negative (Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae and Salmonella spp.) and Gram-positive bacteria (species of Streptococcus, Staphylococcus, Bacillus and Listeria monocytogenes) were identified. Hemolysis was observed in 66.7% Gram-positive and 25% Gram-negative bacteria. Multidrug resistance was tested in 165 randomly selected isolates. Every species of Gram-posit...

Patients with pneumonia after 48 hours of mechanical ventilation are VAP affected. INICC found that VAP rates between 2012 to 2017 are 14.1 per 1000 episodes. The most common pathogens include Acinetobacter baumannii, Pseudomonas Aeruginosa and Klebsiella pneumoniae. Developing countries seem to have a higher mortality rate compared to developed countries. Treatment protocol involves antibiotic therapy. For the early onset of VAP, cephalosporin (cefotaxime or ceftriaxone), fluoroquinolone, or piperacillin-tazobactam are found to be effective while for late-onset, ceftazidime, ciprofloxacin, meropenem, and piperacillin-tazobactam seems to have positive Results. Apart from antibiotics, other options like bacteriophage therapy can offer a good alternative to fight the rapid emergence of MDR pathogens. J MEDICINE 2022; 23: 151-161

Thousands lose their lives to the different types of cancer each year. Cancer remains one of those invincible barriers in the health sector that humans are quite far from overcoming. As cancer remains to be incurable, works are being done every day globally to come up with better ways to treat it. Conventional methods of treatment like chemo and radio therapies have adverse effects on health and thus, new approaches are being used for cancer treatment. One such approach is the use of our body’s own defense mechanism to attack and kill malignant cells. This review will highlight the different components of human immune system that are being used to treat cancer. It will give an idea of the mechanism of action of each of these components and indicate why they are better choices compared to traditional treatments. Side effects and/or challenges of each immunotherapy have also been included.

Several qualitative as well as quantitative approaches are taken into account to emphasize the effective integration of plants into a medical system. Therefore this experiment was designed to standardize and evaluate the health of active plant-extract and their dynamic use in healthcare system to open a new era in drug designing. In order to maintain this knowledge, plant extract of ginger and garlic from native and hybrid source were chosen (July 2018 to July 2019 from different zone of Bangladesh) in this experiment and sensitivity pattern of these extracts against two enteric disease causing organisms Bacillus cereus and Vibrio cholerae were conducted to investigate the role of these natural sources as medicinal plants. To compare the authenticity and efficacy of the plant extracts, selected strains were ...

The antibacterial activity of these oil against selected pathogens were determined by dilution method, disc diffusion and agar well diffusion method. Pathogens were collected from a tertiary hospital and the pathogenicity was determined by DNAse, Coagulase and Blood Agar hemolysis test. All three essential oil tested showed antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumonia and Salmonella typhi. Black seed oil and Neem oil showed the highest rate of antibacterial activity even at very low concentration. In case of all three pathogens, inhibition of growth caused by Neem oil was more than 99%. Black seed oil inhibited the growth of Staphylococcus aureus by 100% and by 99.97% in case of Klebsiella pneu...

This proposed system considered the mobile device used by the prime suspect as the main evidence of cybercrime and tried to find out the degree of criminal involvement in terms of probability likelihood. At first, the most critical data elements were obtained, e.g., deleted files and keywords, through the forensic analysis of the mobile device. This will also help in the identification of the main culprits in the investigation of cybercrime. Next, the system classified the criminals in one of three zones based on the analysis of the keywords to determine the level of crime. The system also takes into account the most probable timeframe for the crime. Thus, the proposed system helps to identify the main culprits in investigating cybercrime more efficiently than the traditional approaches. The system is also looking into the most probable timeframe for the crime, for example, it has been observed that most cybercrime happens on the weekends. The proposed system investigates using cookies and the logical image of the device that cyber criminals left behind.

Therefore, this study was designed to elucidate the structure and function of the biologically important hypothetical protein EMK97_00595 (QBG34344.1) using several bioinformatics tools. ResultsThe functional annotation exposed that the hypothetical protein is an extracellular secretory soluble signal peptide and containing the VHL (VHL beta) domain that has a significant role in tumor suppression. This domain is conserved throughout evolution, as its homologs are available in various types of the organism like mammals, insects, and nematode. The gene product of VHL has a critical regulatory activity in the ubiquitous oxygen-sensing pathway. This domain has a significant role to inhibit cell proliferation, angiogenesis progression, kidney c...
