Studying flow patterns that formed during the two phase flow is great importance in many industries, for example, the petroleum, chemical, nuclear and geothermal industries . Oil extraction operations is one of both offshore and onshore.Two-phase flow is part of a multiphase flow because it consists of two materials and classified as a homogeneous system, for example: as air-liquid, air-solid or as a heterogeneous system, for example: liquid-liquid and liquid-solid. It is considered to be an unsteady flow and it is more complex than single phase flow due to the difference between the material properties in each phase. Air-Liquid flow is a homogeneous flow but at the same time it is considered as an unsteady flow due to difference between the compounds of the material in each phase. It contains more than one phenomenon at the flow in vertical and horizontal pipes with 90° elbow depending on superficial velocity of air Usa and superficial velocity liquid Usl. The value of the density ...

This paper is provided a numerical simulation of flow patterns (bubble, slug/ Taylor bubble, churn/ stratified wave flow, annular) of air-water two phase flow. ANSYS FLUENT program with VOF homogenous model through unsteady state turbulent flow employed to study the effect of holdup, void fraction and liquid film thickness on the pressure drop through the vertical and horizontal pipes with the 90o elbow. K-ɛ (Realizable) model has been used in order to solve the turbulent flow with bubble and slug flow patterns; whereas (RNG) model with churn and annular flow patterns by depending on the values of viscosity and density of the flow mixture.

The development in the industry makes the process of transferring oil between countries a necessity. There has been massive pollution in the rivers environment resulting from the leakage of oil from oil ships, the transfer of factories and workshops wastes to rivers, which posed a great danger to human life and living creatures. Therefore, it is necessary to direct attention to save the aquatic environment from pollution as the process of collecting oil manually is insufficient and slow. In the present study, the drum skimmer is manufactured with a polyester resin surface. This material is characterized by its adhesive effectiveness to liquids and availability. Operational parameters such as viscosity, temperature, and drum rotation speed are investigated using designed and fabricated drum skimmer. The experimental results showed that the fluid viscosity has a high effect on the recovery rate. Also, the recovery rate increases as the drum rotation speed increase. Moreover, the best ...

The frequency analysis of bones is a new tool to assess bone quality or integrity to characterize osteoporosis. The modal analysis can also be used to determine failure characteristics of remodeled bone in the fractured model. This study describes the numerical characterization of the modal analysis of the standardized femur model. The objective of the numerical procedure is to identify the natural frequencies and mode shapes of an unconstrained femur. The vibration modes of the human femur are studied by digital modal analysis and finite element simulation using ANSYS version 10 programs, with respect to femur dimensions and mechanical properties. The changing of the values of free vibration natural frequencies and mode shapes of the femur due to changing of the femur densities are studied. The results are compared to those obtained experimentally. The comparison of the results shows a good agreement, which indicates that the used model can be utilized in vibration analysis of bones.
