Due to COVID-19, almost all educational institutions were temporarily closed down and teaching had to be conducted online. One of the critical subjects that also had been affected by this pandemic is the teaching and learning of foreign language. This quantitative study aimed at exploring participants' perceptions of learning foreign language and also how negative emotions influenced their learning. Questionnaires for this study were adapted from Horwitz, Horwitz and Cope (1986). Questionnaire data were collected from 71 undergraduates from a public university in Malaysia ranged from Semester 1 until 5. The means range between 2.8 to 3.3. The analysis suggest that students are very much influenced with fear of foreign language learning and this has caused them not to excel. Findings from this study would assist future research in seeking learners' preferences in enhancing their engagement in online foreign language learning.

Radio drama feature lacks a visual component, mainly depends on speech, music, and sound effects to let the listener imagine the characters and story. There are many studies done on the effectiveness of role-playing, theater, and drama but not many studies done on radio drama. The purpose of this study is to investigate the students' opinions on the effects of radio drama on their language skills. As many as 96 respondents who have been involved in this study are requested to answer a questionnaire regarding the effects of radio drama on their language skills. The study employed quantitative method analysis. Statistical analysis was also conducted to find out the significant difference between two main variables in the study namely business students and engineering students. The findings of the study show that majority of the students from both groups believed that radio drama application in ESL learning brings good effects to their language skills; writing, speaking, reading, and listening. The students believed that it has helped them to enhance their creativity, range of vocabulary, pronunciation, and grammar skills.

Despite proven effective empirically, very few studies have emphasized project-based learning in flipped classroom based on students’ cognitive style. Thus, the purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of project-based learning in flipped classroom based on students’ cognitive style. This study adopted randomized pretest-posttest control-group quantitative research design. The instruments used in this study were Group Embedded Figure Test (GEFT), Pretest and Posttest. A total of 72 students were involved in this study. Data were analyzed by percentage, mean, and correlation of Eta. The findings show that the majority of Year 5 students have Field Independent (FI) cognitive style. Pretest and posttest analysis show project-based learning approach in flipped classroom can help improve students' achievement in Mathematics and benefit both Field Independent and Field Dependent students

Educators were advised to shift from traditional face-to-face classroom meetings to distance learning mode; online or offline platforms. However, the reality is, the majority of the students are still grappling with e- learning, inadequate equipment, and an unconducive environment making the adoption of home-based elearning even harder. There is no evidence on how Diploma engineering students are experiencing this new normal. Having realised the importance of getting first-hand information regarding online distance learning (ODL) experiences, this study investigated Diploma engineering students’ ODL experiences amidst COVID-19. An online survey using Google Forms was utilised to collect data for three weeks from 486 Diploma level students in a university from the so...

A total number of 27 students were participated in this study. For the data collection, Writing Apprehensions Test (WAT) was developed and adapt from a test designed by (Daly & Miller, 1975). The questionnaire items were divided into three categories, first is on general students’ attitude towards academic writing, second focus on students’ academic writing apprehension and last academic writing challenges. The outcomes of this study indicate that academic challenges are the main cause for the students to be apprehensive towards writing. In addition, most importantly students’ negative attitude towards academic writing results in lack of interest towards academic writing. However, the findings show that most students are aware of the importance of ESL writing and its requirements

The implementation of Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) has been debated by many researchers ... more The implementation of Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) has been debated by many researchers in the field of language teaching methodology. Much is done in this regard and literature confirms that the implementation of CLT in teaching English as a foreign language is challenging. Even though there are studies investigating the issue in Iraqi schools, little has been done in exploring the classroom practices of Communicative Language Teaching by the teachers. Thus, this study hopes to investigate how Iraqi English language teachers implement CLT in their classrooms. A qualitative method is used to collect data through classroom observation of 3 in-service English language teachers. The research question that is addressed is (to what extent the classroom practices of Iraqi English language teachers comply with the principles of Communicative Language Teaching?). The data collected from the observations are analyzed based on a checklist to compare them to the basic principles of co...

However, there are not many studies on challenges faced by students and their solutions. The main aim of this paper is to provide a systematic literature review of academic writing studies which focused on investigating students’ academic writing challenges and their solutions. The papers used in this study were published from 2010 until 2019. A systematic search of literature proposed in this paper employs the exploratory approach for identifying and evaluating twenty-seven articles published in the authentic Journals. The themes of the review are divided into two categories, one which is related to ESL Malaysian students and another category is regarding non-Malaysians, this is due to the context of the study which will be conducted in Malaysia and therefore a review of studies done on Malaysian student academic writing is justified. The review shows there is a bro...
