There are many qualitative studies that has emphasised that there is two way relationships between health care service quality and availability of skilled health workforce; however, the significance of this relationship is still unclear. This study utilises the panel data modelling technique (PDMT) to examine the relationship between health care service quality and availability of skilled health workforce by drawing data from the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) database. Based on the availability of data, three countries were studied in this paper and these three countries are on USA, UK and Israel. The findings from this study showed that the status quo of the health care service delivery can be improved in the USA and the UK if more nu...

Generally, the higher education institutions are using both business and corporate-level strategies to reach out to face-to-face, blended, and online learning students. Against this backdrop, this study argues that to increase student retention rates in the higher education institutions, and provide higher education that enables individuals to become lifelong learners, the following retention strategies can be implemented– (1) Academic Support Programs, (2) Provision of Capable Resources, (3) high quality of instruction delivery, (4) Provision of scholarships and subsidizing higher education fees.

However, globally not much has been documented on DRM in police forces in different jurisdictions. This paper contributes to the literature on DRM by providing an assessment of the DRM in the Fijian police force. The analysis shows that the Fijian police force is still without a clear, transparent, independent and efficient DRM.

There is scant literature available on the impact of remittance inflows and outflows on the economic growth of the large developed countries. For instance, there is little literature on the impact of remittance inflows and outflows on the economic growth rate of Japan. Hence this research objective of this paper is to investigate the relationship between ‘remittance inflows’ and ‘outflows’ on the ‘economic growth rate’ of Japan. The paper by utilizing the World Bank data set and the econometric model namely the Granger Causality Model to test and analysis the impact of remittance inflows and outflows on the economic growth rate of Japan. The findings show that in the long run, a 1% increase in remittance outflows will decrease GDP growth rate by 0.000793%. In the short run, a 1% increase in remittance outflows and inflows will decrease GDP growth rate by 0.000599% and 0.000327% respectively....

Majority of the garment workers are women. The main physical health problems faced by workers are: 'Occupational fatigue syndrome', body pains, obesity, and bladder and kidney problems. The major psychological problems work stress and depression. Work stress and depression are caused by 'intensification of work' to meet daily targets, strict factory rules and regulations, poor pay, poor working conditions, in-human abuse, and fear of job loss. Since garment workers do not have much education and skills they have no other option but to work for the garment industry and suffer in silence.

Design/methodology/approach – This study examined best HRM practices used by the hotel sector of Samoa and Tonga by using self-administered questionnaires. Self-administered questionnaires were distributed to 73 hotels in Samoa and 66 hotels in Tonga. Out of the 73 self-administered questionnaires that were distributed in Samoa, 58 usable questionnaires were returned resulting in a response rate of 79 per cent. In the case of Tonga, out of the 66 self-administered questionnaires were distributed, 51 usable questionnaires were returned resulting in a response rate of 77 per cent. Findings – The findings of this study show that there are 28 best HRM practices in Samoa and 15 best HRM practices in Tonga. This study also found that best HRM practices differ based on differences in internal and external environmental factors present in...

Design/methodology/approach – The data used in this research have been collected from WHO and ADB database for the periods between 2000 and 2012. The model used to test the main research question is based on the variant Cobb-Douglas production function with constant returns to scale. Findings – This research found that health expenditure has a significant impact on the economic growth rate of the PICs. This study also found that the contemporary level of usage of advanced medical technology in the PICs is relatively low as compared to the total population of the country. If the PICs need to achieve high levels of economic growth rates, governments of the PICs need to improve its expenditure in the health sector. Good and qualified doctors n...

The findings from this study confirms that the asymmetric volatility spillover effect exists in our model. The GARCH/TARCH model recorded a positive and highest constant in the volatility equation. This shows that the CBI exhibits very different volatility processes as compared to the CBI returns. In the shortrun and longrun, LIBOR and Five Year Inflation Expectations (FYIE) has a positive and statistically significant impact on CBI returns. Similarly, in the longrun, LIBOR and FYIE have a positive and statistically significant impact on CBI. The findings from this study have implications for the policy makers and practitioners as it indicates the impact of the adjustment in the FYIE and LIBOR on the CBI returns.
