Mesopotamia significa en griego entre ríos haciendo una clara referencia a su ubicación comprendi... more Mesopotamia significa en griego entre ríos haciendo una clara referencia a su ubicación comprendida entre los ríos Tigris y Éufrates, que corresponde en la actualidad al territorio de Irak y el noreste de Siria. Gracias a la abundancia de agua en aquella época por los ríos que rodeaban la región, según la Biblia allí estuvo localizado el Paraísodebido a la gran riqueza natural que ofrecía. Se dividía en Asiria y Babilonia. Dentro de Babilonia encontramos a Acadia y Sumeria. Cada una de las regiones evolucionó de forma diferente, para finalmente ser invadidos y posteriormente dominados por los Persas. La cultura de Mesopotamia fue una de las pioneras en muchas ramas del conocimiento desarrollando la escritura, las primeras leyes en el campo del derecho, el calendario de 12 meses y 360 días, la rueda, la moneda, el sistema postal… La escritura La creación de la escritura se atribuye a los sumerios sobre el año 3.100 a.C siendo el origen de la escritura tipo pictográfica, pasando posteriormente al idiograma debido a la dificultad a la hora de dibujar los conceptos que querían representar. El idiograma hacía más sencilla la interpretación de los dibujos. Con el tiemplo los idiogramas dieron paso a los signos con formas de cuñas o clavos que representaban sonidos. Este proceso de simplificación se debió a que Mesopotamia no era una tierra rica en terreno rocoso, por lo que había escasez de piedras pero si que era rica en arcilla, que posteriormente dio origen al ladrillo. La escritura cuneiforme se realizaba sobre arcilla, cuando todavía estaba húmeda para posteriormente dejarla secar y cocerla con otros ladrillos formando escrituras más amplias. La industria. Utilizaron la arcilla, y con ella fabricaron ladrillos y cerámicas. Para unir los ladrillos utilizaron el asfalto. Inventaron tablillas de arcilla para escribir. La escultura Contemporáneamente a los inicios de la escultura egipcia, se desarrolló en la Baja Mesopotamia la escultura sumeria (con su prolongación en la acadia, babilónica o caldea), y más tarde en la Alta Mesopotamia la escultura asiria. La escultura mesopotámica, en ambas zonas, se caracterizó por la robustez de las formas, sobre todo, de las humanas (rechonchas y con vigorosa musculatura, anchas espaldas, aire severo, pómulos salientes, ojos muy abiertos, pobladas cejas y escasos pliegues en la vestimenta, la cual suele llevar grandes franjas). Los relieves ofrecen por lo común mayor profundidad que los del arte egipcio, con algún intento de perspectiva y más intensidad en la reproducción de detalles. La escasez de representaciones puramente pictóricas, y el hecho de que los relieves habitualmente se pintaban convierte a la escultura en la principal de las artes figurativas mesopotámicas. El tratamiento de la figura humana implicaba la personalización: se representa siempre a personas individualizadas, muy a menudo con su nombre grabado. De hecho, se pretende sustituir a la persona más que representarla, lo que implica el denominado realismo conceptual y convenciones artísticas en cierta medida similares a las egipcias: cabeza y rostro desproporcionados respecto al cuerpo, simplificación y regularización de las formas mediante la ley
