As communities and governments invest into digital literacy and digital inclusion strategies, mor... more As communities and governments invest into digital literacy and digital inclusion strategies, more often than not such interventions are predicated on driving up economic & educational indicators, and the success or failure of such programmes are measured against a taxonomy that is based within these domains, frequently to the exclusion of the complex social and cultural considerations of those being impacted by such initiatives -- and where such principled economic and educational strategies have in themselves delivered poor results in particular to underserved and indigenous communities. Building on the theory of sociocultural constructionism (Pinkett, 2000, 2002), and developmental work with youth, school, community and technology, Clubhouse 274 in Otara, New Zealand, part of the global Intel Network of Computer Clubhouses, seeks to establish a research project that is grounded both within the emergent field of community informatics and the social and cultural world view of the predominantly Mori and Pacific community the project serves.
