T... more ABSTRACT This study examined globalization challenges on the manufacturing industry in Nigeria. The study employed a sample of two firms in Port Harcourt. Using the questionnaire and oral interviews as research instruments, data were obtained and analyzed with simple percentages and Chi-square statistical tools. The major findings of the study were that: (a) the problem of poor technology is the greatest challenge of Nigerian firms; (b) Nigerian managers are not nonchalant in responding issues of globalization and have responded adequately to global competition and Nigerian firms have also been able to increase sales volumes. The study concluded Nigerian firms still need to improve in their response pattern to globalization in order to rescue the economy from perpetual infancy; and recommended that Nigeria should take another look at her membership in the World Trade Organization (WTO) selectively engaging more in those trades that will not jeopardize her national interest. Using a survey research in which data were collected and analyzed through the use of tables showing percentages of respondents to the questions contained in the questionnaires. We found that training is the basic of building up the human resources in an organization to achieve its goals and objectives. It also plays a great role in determining the effectiveness and efficiency of any organization. As with most organizations, the training and development are not without problems especially with its processes, pattern and procedures. These problems include improper selection procedure due to lack of identification of training needs. All these are issues which are examined in this study with a particular attention on staff. The characteristics of the small scale industries was also defined which entails the importance of small scale industries in economic development. Policies and its implications were also discussed where the government policies were also treated. The small scale industrial structural adjustment and aims of industrial policies of Rivers State Government, Nigeria were fully highlighted. In the light of this circumstance there is the understanding that the small scale industries are striving from unforeseen circumstance of unguided policies that are rather denunciative to their welfare and sustenance rather than abridging their wellbeing to a higher level of product output. However, the small scale industrial sectors have been able to sustain and survive in-spite of the neglect by government in assisting them normally and financially.

It was found from the analysis that the delegation of authority and assignment of responsibility for cost incurrence in companies contributed to effective cost control; that cost reduction and control scheme is a function of firm’s growth. This study was designed to find out possible causes and ways of resolving materials management problems in selected industries in Nigeria. In course of the study, 84 copies of questionnaire were used for data analysis, hence a simple percentage method was used to analyze and interpret the data collected. Our findings as embedded in the study were that some of the organizations studied, went as far as leaving the management of materials in the accounting department and that most firms adopt different inventory control techniques for different materials inventoried. The study covered both private and public owned hotels in Rivers State capital, Port Harcourt. Data were collected and analyzed using simple percentage and frequency distribution table. The results of our study revealed a link that management of this organization amongst others has contributed to its poor performance. The study concluded that incessant changes in government and their massive interference in the management of this industry have great effect. Also, political instability and legal system contributed greatly to their failure. It was therefore recommended that this sector of the economy should be privatized and not be allowed to be controlled by government selection and appointment. It was mainly concerned with assessing, evaluating, and ascertaining the overall impact of job rotation on productivity, improvement of skills, talents, and correction of irregularities. The article reveals that; there is a significant and favorable relationship between job rotation and an employee performance. That the skills and knowledge acquired from a job rotation enhances productivity, and that job rotation assists management in detecting and correcting wrongs. Based on these results, it is recommended that job rotation should be practiced and management should build a viable and up-to-date internal control system, and that employees found wanting in wrong acts should be punished accordingly.

It is hoped that it will enable us device a means to effectively manage organizational cultural differences and to make appropriate recommendations for an effective resolution, aimed at ensuring organizational development, productivity, and business growth. We adopted the descriptive pattern and used questionnaire in collecting the data. A total of 80 copies of questionnaire were distributed to company officers and personnel. Since the data were based on nominal scale, simple percentage and Chi-square methods were used to compute and analyze the stated hypotheses. The findings reveal among others; the managerial policies, the behavior of the managers toward the employees and their chances and information gap are the major factors that influence the effect of culture on employee performance in Nigeria. A sample of one hundred and ninety-two (192) female employees drawn from thirty-one (31) commercial banks in Rivers State, Nigeria was used for the study. One hundred and ninety two copies of questionnaire were administered to the respondents and the responses received were statistically tested. The statistical tool used was the Chi-square (X2) test.
