En meme temps l’exigence de la contextualisation doit se conjuguer avec le souci d’assumer la responsabilite dogmatique de toute theologie. Comment la theologie peut-elle se rapporter aux autres epistemologies sans dissoudre son objet ? In the Nigerian context, genuine patriotism would include upholding the rule of law, active participation in politics and other societal affairs, support for good leadership, and working for the common good. Since formation of society results from the social nature of man, the correct tendency should not be to hinder its progress by selfish means, or to condemn politics as dirty, but to improve them by working for the good of all, irrespective of religion or ethnicity. Genuine patriotism is opposed to unhealthy nationalism that leads to parochialism, exclusivism and tribalism. Hence, a new Nigeria is one in which citizens, respecting one another, exercise their rights properly and undertake their various responsibilities together with their elected leaders. Thus, they commit themselves to the welfare of the whole person, of all persons and of Nigeria as a whole.
