Former notions of anonymity and privacy are now infeasible as a result of massive information sharing through electronic media. The clinical repercussions of these changes are being extensively debated, but issues involving patient privacy and anonymity have not been sufficiently explored. Although several aspects of the impact of the internet on therapeutic setting-such as the need for psychotherapists to exercise caution when making personal information available online-have been addressed in the literature, there has been comparatively little discussion on psychotherapists seeking information about their patients on the internet, a phenomenon known as "patient-targeted googling" (PTG).

While acknowledging that technology may be used as resistence, she explores its communicative quality and argues that electronic devices are part of the digital dialect that contemporary analysts should incorporate. Based on the description of an intense countertransference response set in motion by the use of a smartphone, some theoretical and neuroscientific aspects of nonverbal communication and projective identification are reviewed. In this context, the author describes an offshoot of the concept of projective identification and suggests a term to designate it- electronically mediated projective identification (EMPI). By means of electronic devices, very primitive aspects of patients' internal world penetrate the mind of the analyst with either evacuative or communication purposes, or both.

We cheer with his formidable life drive, resiliency and faith, which allow him to confront potentially or inevitably traumatic situations, such as bullying and the shipwreck. His struggle to quell hunger and thirst, avoid predators, find shelter and warmth and seek his fellow men evokes the idea of primitive man before the forces of nature; it reminds us of mankind's childhood and our own. It also brings the idea of the agressive drive – the tiger-as something which begins in the individual, creating activity and movement, enabling the development and the continuity of life. What would be of our castaway without his tiger? We're all Pi, born in a state of absolute vulnerability and fated to a slow maturing process. With distinct potentials, in distinct environments which do or do not favor favor their development; living, in a unique way, throughout the existence, traumatic situations of all sorts. Pi creatively transforms the past in an astonishing story, sheltering himself from the raw, maddening reality: he lost all and is alone. " But telling something by using words, be it in English or Japanese, isn't it in a certain way an invention? Isn't the mere fact of looking at this world, in a certain way, an invention? "-he questions. There is the capability of reflection, the historicizing thought, a vital psychic function which gives new and renewed meanings to the past and favors the unfolding of the future. Pi owes his survival of the shipwreck to his own internal resources. The images of the mother, loving and welcoming, and of the father, steady and present, are well established inside himself. Thanks to those he keeps himself alive, bearing the unbearable and granting the key role of his survival to his own aggressive impulses, while trying – painstakingly-to keep them under control. His efforts to tame the tiger and to delimit territories on the boat illustrate this difficult and unstable balance, which we all know too well. It is possible to see, in his adventures, an allegory of the painful task of adolescence, a transitory and decisive step in growth: the drama of the youth who needs to detach from his parents to find his own identity. By this period, the uncontrollable modifications of both body and humor, the disturbing desires and their resulting feelings of guilt all burst forth; the irregularity between the increasing desire for autonomy and the nostalgia of dependence is intensified. All of this, added up to the loss of the idealized parents and the awareness of one's own fragility, fosters a constelation, lived as being traumatic, which evokes the initial helplessness. The storm which he fantasizes to conduct is followed by horror: the brutal destruction of the

The use of new technologies should be studied to understand how it may affect the relationship between patient and therapist during psychotherapy or psychoanalytic treatments. This study offers a critical discussion of the effect of technologies on clinical practice, and vignettes are used to describe their impact on frame, anonymity, abstinence and therapeutic neutrality. Transfer and countertransference issues resulting from these changes are also discussed. The potential benefits of new technologies in psychotherapy are appreciated, but the authors draw attention to the need to reflect about the presence of the therapist in those technologies and the preservation of the therapeutic setting, so that a satisfactory progression of the work of the dyad is ensured.
