The real option rule is that one should invest today only if the net present value is high enough to compensate for giving up the value of the option to wait. Because the

We have developed a hyperknowledge support system for strategic management in the forest industry, and have tried it out in several strategic business units in a major corporation. The core of the system is an object-oriented expert system, which has been overlaid with a hyperknowledge support system. This turns out to be a useful construct, as we get a non-trivial level of knowledge representation and an attractive and easy-to-use support system. We tested the system with 30 managers and some early results show definite improvements in the quality of some key elements of the strategic management process. Our results show so far that hyperknowledge support systems promise to have a significant impact on strategic management.<>

This will combine traditional business with the new e- and mobile business, and will be driven by a new breed of online customers, who operate both wired and wireless networks, who will expect fast delivery,

To find an explanation, we formulated propositions, moving from a macro-economic view on innovation, via innovation strategies to explanations that focus on the design of the artefact and the supporting business models. We concluded that, in the design process,

In this paper we shall suppose that the decision maker does not care about the particular values of tolerance levels, but he wishes to minimize their weighted sum. This is a new statement of FLP, because here the tolerance levels are also treated as variables.

In 1988 Yager introduced a new aggregation technique based on the ordered weighted averaging operators (OWA) [338]. The determination of ordered weighted averaging (OWA) operator weights is a very important issue of applying the OWA operator for decision making. One of the first approaches, suggested by O’Hagan, determines a special class of OWA operators having maximal entropy of the OWA weights for a given level of orness; algorithmically it is based on the solution of a constrained optimization problem. In 2001, using the method of Lagrange multipliers, Fullér and Majlender solved this constrained optimization problem analytically and determined the optimal weighting vector. In 2003 using the Karush-Kuhn-Tucker second-order sufficiency conditions for optimality, Fullér and Majlender [155] computed the exact minimal variability weighting vector for any level of orness. In this Chapter we give a short survey of some later works that extend and develop these models.

The decision on to close/not close a production plant has been understood to be a similar now-or-never decision for two reasons: (i) to close a plant is a hard decision and senior management can make it
