It was a Roads Scholar small boat cruise for twelve people. We had bird expert Peter Alden with us. My primary interest was to visit with Darwin's Finches to see how his theory of Biological Evolution was holding up in the light of new discoveries.

Becker has been recently been elected to Project Gutenberg as one of our greatest writers. Being a member myself I decided to read his history of the European settlers of North America published in 1917. It inspired me to follow up and revisit and update a bike tour I took down the Danube River in 2005. This essay is an overview of our European roots in Europe.

Up to now the Little Ice Age did at least as much damage as global warming. At that time the burning off of forests for fuel followed by the shift to coal and industrialization was what led to global warming. If we are ever to gain control over global it is likely we will be thrown back into the Pleistocene Ice Age. This Gordian knot will be addressed in the work.

The world erupting with dangers creates a through-the-looking-glass dreamtime says Deirdre Barrett, a psychologist at Harvard Medical School. Compounded, concerned dreamers create Covid-like symptoms, tidal waves, monsters on the loose, and bugs, bugs, bugs. How else can we explain Bill Maher's supposition that the heavily made up orangehaired ex-president is the offspring of a human woman and an orangutan. At the root of an epidemic there can be far worse complications when joined with issues of race, privilege, and language that have always plagued civilization. A textbook example of this situation began in the warm Medieval period in Europe. The success of the agricultural sector created an excess population from the 8th to the 11th centuries. In Scandinavia redundant males were encouraged to go "a viking" in summertime. A mega-drought brought it all down. The Malthusian tipping point was reached in 1301. Famine and starvation provoked an extravagant state of the dreaming as depicted by Coppo Di Marcovaldo. The Catholic Church declared such nightmares to be the work of the Devil. Someone has to be blamed. The presence of the Devil was completely believable with the arrival of iceage conditions along with a strain of bacteria that lived on fleas, that lived on rats, that lived on humans. To survive the cold forests were burned off for heat. People then turned to coal for heat. The Black Death caused a 33% mortality rate across Europe. It was no respecter of gender, race, or economic status. The People were paranoid, frightened, or mad as hell as seen in The Triumph of Death painted by Orcagna in 1348. The starvation incurred by overpopulation began to be paid by serfs, yet it was they who would gain an advantage in negotiations with land owners. Their wages went up. The death of monks isolated in their scriptoria provoked the invention and use of the Gutenberg Press. This empowered Martin

Some questions will be answered, new questions will arise. This, however, doesn't hold a candle to the discovery that human occupation sites have been found in the Americas dating back to 25,000 years ago. When we link this from Homo sapiens in Ice-Age caves in Europe to the Hopi myth creation stories there simply no comparison about the number of questions that can be answered about the human condition and why we do what we do.

During this time our response to the Little Ice Age led directly to Global Warming. The artists show us that as individuals they found hope under the most devastating conditions. As we go to the cumulative view the situation becomes dire. Even if we could set the temperature of Earth by rotating a knob there might be a brief moment of improvement that won’t last or be the same again. Evolution, remember? The fundamental necessary that causes what we call life. Love it while ye may.

Yet he was one of the great artists of the 20th century. If you showed an arthritic a bio of his incredible range of accomplishments the critic would say such a person doesn't exist. This work shows the such an artist does exist. Since I have been Googled as such a writer I am the perfect person to present him to the public.
