Indian Cinema fondly referred to as Bollywood, has remained the cultural barometer of the country while being a powerful medium of entertainment articulating contemporaneous societal and medical issues. Particularly, the portrayal of mental illnesses remains an interesting yet under-studied domain to-date. Initially projected as synonymous with madness or insanity, psychiatric conditions gradually metamorphosed to more rational screen reflection. This article analyses the portrayal of the mental illness in three Hindi feature films (Omkara (2006), Haider (2014), Maqbool (2003) by Vishal Bhardwaj) that were based on the screen adaptations of Shakespearean Tragedy namely Othello, Hamlet and Macbeth, respectively. Through this phenomenological deliberation, we discuss how these movies in their own style and expressions have embodied mental illness in a hitherto unexplored way. Using extended case studies, we qualitatively investigated how the spectrum of mental illness was depicted; ho...

Among the artworks that are combined here in a single, loud voice yelling in unison, the discourses which bind the subject into the role of 'migrant' are left with no recourse but to, simply, shatter. This is a strategy which to be [defined] has chosen to operate under, in order to describe migration as not simply an historical, normative, bothersome or irregular act, but also as one of resistance and revolution; as it has been in the past and as it continues to be in the present, in this place and elsewhere. From an enforced objectivisation to the more legitimate demands of subjectivity and authorship, from the expected representations to others that are far less obvious, moving along across liquid-stone staircases to frontiers, bazaars, backrooms, roads and squares, to be [defined] manufactures the desire of an effective displacement from a migratory imaginary in which everyone is entangled, all the while showing us the material that this same migration is made out of, as seen through various angles. The settings and objects of displacement are then turned inside-out, revealing a desire for voluntary exile, both as an individual and collective resistance; as a departure from our own discursive places and non-places. This is precisely what we find as we proceed along an artistic-anthropological trajectory that puts into question a shared, but also worn-out imaginary about migration, its solidified aesthetic made up of the same, staid and entirely expected spaces, images, dialogues and objects. Exile is not just a limit, an isolating fact. It also marks a new, radical position, regaling us with the opportunity of taking the side of those who ask for nothing except to live according to their legitimate rights and duties. Exile as a space for the construction of memory, and thus of a collective identity; freedom to dwell in a different, new and possible imaginary where one can feel at ease not with the closed and reassuring lines of a definition-of a frontier-but within the on and off traces, within the passages.
In both English Grammar Course books and TOEFL Preparation Course books, it is frequently explained that the auxiliary verb be can be followed by either the present participle or the past participle. Though it is grammatically possible to put these two forms of participle after be, in a sentence only one of them is appropriate or accepted. This possibility of having the two participles (present and past) after the verb " be " can of course make the EFL (English as a Foreign Language) students, especially the beginners, feel confused. It would be difficult for them to make appropriate choices when they are completing some exercises from English grammar books Pragmatics and Grammar MPd Arab World English Journal ISSN: 2229-9327 www.awej.org 287 or doing grammar and structure section of TOEFL examination. As a result, they could make a mistake. Hence, it is not enough for the EFL learners to have only grammatical knowledge, but it is also necessary for them to know pragmatics. To emphasize the importance of pragmatics for EFL learners, this paper analyzes the grammatical construction of the verb be followed by either the present participle or the past participle. Such analysis provides a solid understanding of how pragmatics is important for the EFL learners in the context of using the participles appropriately. The paper explores the grammatical construction of the verb forms after the verb be. It also analyzes the relationship between pragmatics and grammar.
