It offers a detailed analysis of a proto-imperial sanctuary, likely situated on one of the short sides of the Forum in the center of the ancient city, which is the only one of its kind known in Iguvium. The book is divided into three sections. The first section focuses on historical topography, examining the public monuments and private buildings of the Roman period, as well as the city's relations with other towns in the vicinity. The second section delves into the architecture of the sanctuary, the stratigraphic contexts related to its foundation as well as the epigraphic documentation. The final part of the book presents a hermeneutical discussion of the deity to which the cult was dedicated.

This contribution offers a preliminary report of this important discovery as it provides crucial information regarding the original extent of the municipium of Nuceria. Little is known about the important Umbrian centre despite its development to control an important route, later included in the via Flaminia. Therefore, due to the nearly complete absence of evidence regarding the settlement, the new data from these unpublished excavations presented in this paper are fundamental.

A re-exam of the iconographic repertoire of the anthropomorphic representation of Cecrops together with few, but noteworthy data from literary sources, proves that such a type is to be associated with the homonymous king of the Erechteids, Cecrops II. As a result, the only true iconographic representation of Cecrops I is the figure shaped with the top half like a man and the bot¬tom half in a serpent form.

medievale.
