Dogs presented to the Department of Veterinary Clinical Medicine or Veterinary Clinical Complex, Bhubaneswar were randomly screened for Ancylostoma caninum infection and the positive dogs were selected for the therapeutic trial Faecal samples were collected randomly from presented dogs immediately after defaecation or from the rectum directly using a faecal scoop. The collected sample was examined by floatation technique to detect the positive cases of Ancylostoma caninum infection. The dogs with normal clinical parameters and no eggs or ova in the faeces were included in in group 1 (n=12). Dogs with faecal sample positive for Ancylostoma caninum ova were recruited for the comparative study (n=24) which were grouped into two groups consisting of 12 dogs in each (group 2 and 3). Group 2 dogs (n=12) were treated w...

Esta doença ocorre tanto em cadelas como em gatas, porém apenas as primeiras serão objeto de estudo na realização deste relatório: Abstract: Small animal medicine and surgery This report was carried out within the framework of the integrated Master's degree in Veterinary Medicine which describes the curricular traineeship held at the Centro Hospitalar Veterinário, in Porto, between September 17th, 2018 to February 28th, 2019. It is divided into two parts, the first one corresponding to the description of the cases observed during the internship period and the second in a literature review about the canine pyometra, culminating in a clinical case followed during the internship. Pyometra is a disease that is shown by the accumulation of purulent content in the uterus and is a disease that occurs in intact female dogs. The selection treatment for this condition is an ovariohysterectomy that should be performed as soon as possible, as complications associated with this disease may occur, such as uterine rupture, peritonitis septic, endotoxemia, sepsis, and even progressing to animal death. This disease occurs in both female dogs and cats, but only the first will be objects of study in this report

Blood samples were collected from jugular vein of 20 apparently healthy, 60 subclinical mastitis and 40 clinical mastitis affected cattle. Blood samples were analyzed for Hb, PCV, TEC, TLC, ESR and DLC, serum samples were analyzed for ALT, AST, Ca, Cl, K, Mg, Na, P and TP. There was an increase of Hb, PCV, TEC, lymphocyte, monocyte and ESR in SCM compared to CM, whereas in CM there was increase of TLC and granulocyte compared to SCM. Higher values of ALT and TP were observed in CM cases, whereas AST and Ca values were higher in SCM cases. Haemato-biochemical parameters can be used as important indicators for pathological state of mastitis animals.

In pregnant healthy bitches the indices (PSV and EDV) of uterine artery increased progressively with the evolution of pregnancy. RI values found in case of normal dioestrus and pregnant bitches were higher than that of pyometric group bitches. The mean systolic peak velocity in canine uterine artery of nonpregnant dioestrus bitches was 20 cm/s. RI values were ranging between1-1.52 (mean of RI =1.280). There is significant difference in the haemodynamic parameters between pregnant and non pregnant animal. PSV and EDV of pregnant animal is comparatively higher than non pregnant dioestrus bitches, but RI value of NP bitches were higher than pregnant bitches and PI values were almost zero. Normal dioestrus and pregnant bitches showed lower blood flow velocities and higher hemodynamic indices when compared to pyometra groups. The blood flow in the uterine artery increases significantly during pyometra and pregnancy which can be used as an important parameter for evaluation of reproductive functionality of bitches.

A highly significant difference (P< 0.05) was observed in the PCV and TLC values between normal dioestrus and pyometric bitches abut there is no significant difference in the haemoglobin level and TEC values. A significant (P< 0.05) increase in the mean of BUN, Creatinine and ALP level was observed in pyometric bitches as compared to control group. Control group bitches showed higher hemodynamic indices (PI & RI) and lower blood flow velocities (PSV and EDV) in comparison to pyometra group. As the blood flow in the uterine artery increases significantly during pyometra, these parameters can be used as a key parameter for diagnosis as well as therapeutic evaluation in canine pyometra.

The prevalence of canine venereal tumour was found to be 25.46 per cent with respect to all reproductive diseases and 34.15 per cent of all types of tumours in dogs in and around Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The incidence was more in young female dogs of age group 2 to 11 years (46.34%) with a mean age of 5.17 years. Non-descript/ indigenous breeds (73.17%) were more affected as compared to pure breeds of dogs. Haematological examination of suspected cases revealed normocytic-hypochromic anaemia, neutrophilic leucocytosis with thrombocytopenia and lymphopenia. Serum biochemical examination of affected cases revealed hypoproteinemia, hypoalbuminemia, hypoglobulinemia, hypoglycemia, decreased triglyceride and higher levels of LDH, blood urea nitrogen, creatinine, calcium, increased levels of alanine aminotransferase and alkaline phosphatase. Gross examination revealed presence of tumour masses around the genital organs with pinkish or hyperemic cauliflower like appearance with ulcerations and bleeding. Cytological and histopathological examinations of suspected cases revealed typical pleomorphic neoplastic round cells with marked anisocytosis, anisokaryosis, vacuolated cytoplasm, large central to eccentric nuclei, increased mitoses, hyperchromsia which are suggestive of Transmissible venereal tumours. Cytological, histopathological along with haematological and biochemical studies can be profitably utilized for early diagnosis and prognosis of canine transmissible venereal tumours.
