This article is a part of this study analyzes the emergence of a new news-value behind the process of selecting what will or will not be broadcast on television news: the unique flagrant of co-production. This new news-value is connected to co-producers and their more active role in news programs. Co-producers are not cameramen at television stations, news agencies, or press services. They are citizens who capture images which are then used in television news broadcasts. The study was based on participant observation (WOLF, 1997), semi-structured interviews and a content analysis (HERSCOVITZ, 2007) of Rede Globo National News in Brazil. The public “participation” in journalistic production through digital media (mobile phones, cameras, camcorders, tablets). These images are being captured by people who are not cameramen of TV stations or news agencies, or from press offices. They are citizens who serve as co-producers of the news. The scenes recorded by them are increasingly found not only on the internet, but also in the television news. The main objective of this study is to analyze the criteria of newsworthiness employed by journalists to select the images produced by these co-producers, to identify which news values were used and how the professional journalistic field reconstructs the social reality from these records. During the analysis, we identify the emergence of a news value specific: flagrant unique of coproduction, connected to the effects of participation of represented real. It is not real in itself, because it is reconstructed from images. It is an effect of participation, because there is mediation work done by journalists in television, who choose what will be shown or not. In our view, in the news broadcasting, the coproducers do not play the role of journalists, but the production of visual information (pictures) or audiovisual information (videos). It is a study that has as reference the journalists of Jornal Nacional, of Rede Globo, the most watched TV news program in Brazil.
