It’s relevance in the area of weather forecast, irrigation/fertilizer application, tracking of farm produce, internet banking, pests and disease control and monitoring were looked into. However, Nigerian agriculture has not witnessed such reformation and transformation due to some challenges. Therefore, some recommendations were made to combat these hindrances and move Nigerian agriculture to an enviable status of worldclass standard

However, IoT and ICT can be used as tools for transforming agriculture to modern-day standard. The present study discussed the importance of IoT and ICT in rural agriculture. In livestock and crop production, the roles of IoT and ICT in terms of weather forecasting, irrigation of crops, monitoring of pests and diseases, animal tracking, health, marketing and transportation of farm produce to market were elucidated. In conclusion, these tools can aid and transform rural agriculture thereby lifting the face of agriculture

Data on socio-economic characteristics (age, experience on the job, household composition and educational status) and factors influencing profitability of goat marketing were obtained from respondents using a structured questionnaire. Sixty respondents were sourced for in the study area, selection was through multi-stage sampling process. Data generated were analysed using descriptive statistics (tables, frequencies, percentages and means) and regression analysis. The result showed that 81.7% of the goat marketers were above 41 years of age with mean age of 58 years. Majority (53.3%) had between 6 and 11 years of goat marketing experience and a household size of 6-10 members was reported by 75% respondents. It is worthy to note that majority (70%) of the goat marketers in the study area had formal education. At 1% significance level, average price of feed, a...

Iwo Local Government is well accredited for small ruminant production, their production practices were assessed through the use structured questionnaires. Results showed that majority of the farmers were females, married, Muslims within the age bracket 51-60 years and most of them were traders. Higher percentage of the farmers supplied water (87.0%) from the well (76.4%) to their small ruminants but majority (87.8%) did not properly utilize/managed their animal manure. Majority of the respondents did not provide any housing facilities (92.0%) for their animals. It was obvious that some practices by small ruminant farmers in the study area were ethical while others were uncalled for. The fermented corn-cob was included in the diets at 0%, 5.0%, 10.0%, 15.0% and 20.0% of the total diet at the expense of maize. Feed intake was not significantly (P>0.05) different, although birds on the control diet consumed slightly more feed than birds on the fermented corn-cob based diets. Hen day production and feed per dozen eggs decreased with increase in dietary level of corn-cob (P<0.05). Yolk colour was significantly (P<0.05) affected, rumen filtrate fermented corn-cob appear to promote better yolk coloration. Egg weight and shell thickness were not significantly influenced by dietary treatment. The overall results appear to suggest that rumen filtrate fermentated corn-cob could provide a material that holds promise as a good alternative to maize because of its enhanced crude protein value and reduced crude fibre content.

Analysing gender roles on maternal health care (MHC) decision is of major concern in ensuring safe motherhood and poverty reduction in rural homes. Therefore, this study analysed gender concerns of MHC among rural farmers. Multistage sampling procedure was used to select 124 respondents for the study; data were collected using structured interview schedule, Focus Group Discussion, descriptive and inferential statistics. Respondents (χ = 29 years) were in their youthful and procreating stage with average family size of 4 members. Husbands (64.5%) mainly decided the MHC utilised for childbirth. More females (54.8%) belonged to cooperative society. About (56.5%) of males and females (53.2%), respectively were crop producers having average monthly earning of #19,000. Most predicating factors to MHC decision were family tradition ( χ= 2.21) and ...

Four test diets were formulated: Palm Kernel Cake (PKC), Brewer’s Dried Grain (BDG), Wheat Offal (WO) and combinations of PKC + BDG + WO based diets while Guinea grass was fed as the basal diet. Diet A (33.25 % PKC), diet B (33.25 % BDG), diet C (33.25 % WO) and diet D (11.08 % PKC + 11.08 % BDG + 11.08 % WO) were included in the formulated diets. The proximate composition of the diets and performance characteristics of calves on these diets were assessed using standard procedures. Diet D was observed to have the highest CP, CF and ether extract (28.3, 34.0 and 20.0 % respectively) while diet C followed a direct inverse trend of this in terms of DM, CP and CF (55.8, 22.6 and 23.0 % respectively). Results also showed that there were not significant differences among the treatments in final weight, weight gain, daily weight gain and the feed conversion r...
